As with the 102.2 Jazz FM reasons for its merger, the 100.4 Jazz FM article should be merged with the 100.4 Smooth FM article. The change in music policy which occured happened before the change to Smooth FM. The same reasons for the merger of 102.2 Jazz FM with 102.2 Smooth FM apply here. Smooth FM (defunct) and Smooth Radio - both need their own articles according to radio station article guidance

edit

I know people will want to move the page to Smooth Radio, but there is guidance on how radio station articles where a change in format and name apply (as in this case) at the Wikipedia Radio Stations Wikiproject.

And I quote:

It even gives the change from Jazz FM to Smooth FM as the prime example! For a guide as to how it should be done per guidance, see 102.2 Smooth FM alongside 102.2 Smooth Radio. --tgheretford (talk) 18:02, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The article is sufficiently brief to accommodate a discussion of the change. A switch between 'FM' and 'radio' in the name is not uncommmon either. The JPStalk to me 18:22, 26 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I notice that a discussion has been going on here as regards the newly created Smooth Radio, and I would like to add one or two comments which I hope might prove helpful.
  • In changing its name from Smooth FM to Smooth Radio, the station has also changed its format, moving away from playing jazz and soul and focusing on the easy listening market.
  • There are now separate articles for Smooth FM and Smooth Radio in London.
  • GMG Radio (which owns this station) also acquired the Saga Radio Network in December 2006. All Saga stations have also been rebranded as Smooth Radio, beginning Monday, March 26. I think separate articles might also be needed for these. For anyone who is interested, these are Saga 105.2 FM, Saga 105.7 FM and Saga 106.6 FM.
  • Since the rebrand, the format of the original Smooth FM and Saga stations has become a sort of composite of the two.
