editHey Guys (Caltech to be specific), What is the problem with allowing the Serpentronic robot snake link? This is a real robot snake project with a movie. Why would you allow Gavin Millars snakes but not the Serpentronic snake? This is under EXTERNAL links and if it isn't related to robot snakes then what is? The Thinkbotics site is educational and would be worth a look for someone interested in robot snakes and possibly building them. And how elitist to think that every resource should be as big as NASA or IEEE. If your argument is that the site is commercial then you've got to get rid of most of the links in wikipedia because without resources education can not continue. This is really discouraging for someone trying to do something good by contributing. You guys really have me wondering what is going on here...

- Please review the following guidelines regarding external links WP:EL, link spamming WP:SPAM, conflicts of interest WP:COI, and what WP is NOT WP:NOT. WP is not a directory of links nor a forum to promote your website. WP welcomes good contributions, but not the use of this encyclopedia as a promotional medium. All the arguments you've used above have been used before. Rather than duplicate the responses here, please read WP:SPAM. Calltech 10:45, 27 December 2006 (UTC)
I'm new to the wikipedia and must apologize for not reading the guidelines regarding links - I was thinking of the wiki more like a conventional web site and I do agree that any relevant information should be contained within the article and not as a link. I just hope that bureaucracy doesn't get in the way of creativity. Another point to mention is that there actually are quite a few wiki robotics links and information within articles that are being used for blatant self promotion and marketing (wowee toys for example). So, if newcomers see this going on they might assume that it's acceptable...
