2018 world cup seems overlooked.
editI am confuse. How can anyone justify having a single line about the largest sporting event in the world. Sochi was the Russian city name upon any 2018 World Cup watcher. Please suggest how to elaborate. It seems to me that a new section entirely about the world cup in Sochi would not be inapropriate. Any suggestions appreciated.

maps provided
editHey, I'm glad to see that the article gives maps needed for world-wide readers. Back in 2010-2012, when Sochi was coming into world-wide attention as site for upcoming 2014 Winter Olympics, there was this "maps needed" discussion (since archived). I was derided for asking for multiple maps to provide perspective, while it was asserted a truly terrible map was supposed to be wonderful. What a crock that was, including with its truly bizarre/incomprehensible inset map which happens to present Kaliningrad as an island! (And note there is still a similarly weird map illustrating European Russia article today.)
Happily, sometime during the years, the Sochi article's infobox acquired 3 levels of maps which can be chosen: Krasnodar Krai vs. European Russia vs. Europe, delivering what was called for.
Thanks Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) and ‡ Himalayan ‡ (later User:Tibetan Prayer or User:Encyclopædius?) for participating. I have brooded about this for a decade, apparently! --Doncram (talk) 03:29, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
