Merger proposal
editThis page should be moved. The title is just plain bad. OptimistBen (talk) 19:52, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
The page name is good IMHO, but the content lets it down a little. I will try to include it in one of my wikiprojects. --rakkar (talk) 13:21, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- Merging is a drastic action. It would combine material in Welfare (financial aid) on analogical uses of the term 'welfare" ("ccrpoarate welfare and "finsncial aid" in including for example student loans or tuition subsidies. The is a usage stretch to begin with. That article needs serious clean up. Merger would add to the mare's nest. Why This article should not be a casualty of the merger. As suggested above, a name change for this article might, however, be in order. So as not to mix up discussion, let me create a new section on that. --Thomasmeeks (talk) 17:49, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- As I have previously mentioned, I think there is sufficient distinction between the cultural contexts of welfare systems - indeed even the word welfare - in different countries, to support discussing these in separate articles according to their cultural context. I could even see creating a "WikiProject Welfare" to work on articles such as Welfare state, Social welfare provision, Welfare reform, Welfare (financial aid), Welfare in the United States, Welfare in Europe, Welfare in the Nordic countries, etc. Wilhelm_meis (talk) 21:37, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- I have created a wiki project proposal for welfare at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Council/Proposals#Wikiproject_Welfare. Come and support it. ^.^Smallman12q (talk) 14:05, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
The other article doesn't address corporate welfare (which has its own article) or college loans or scholarships; the content is basically the same as this article. I agree with a merge.--Gloriamarie (talk) 20:59, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Proposed name change for this article
editAs suggested in the previous section, a name change for this article may be in order. Its meaning is clear enough but relatively infrequent. Here are some alternative search results from Google Scholar:
- "Social welfare provision": 2,210 hits
- "Public-assistance programs": 5,560 hits
- "Welfare programs": 40,700 hits
(3) has the advantage of brevity and wide use. I propose changing the article name to "Welfare programs." Any seconds? A name change would move the history to the new name of the article. If the widest consensus is for a change, I'd alsoi propose moving it in a week. --Thomasmeeks (talk) 18:20, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
