The text says Sodium polyacrylate, crosslinked (monomer: -CH2-CH(CO2Na)- ) is a crosslinked acrylic acid polymersodium salt (...), but should it be Sodium polyacrylate, crosslinked (monomer: -CH2-CH(CO2Na)- ) is a crosslinked sodium acrylate salt polymer (...) ? From the chemical formula, I suppose that it's a polymer of the salt sodium acrylate. Albmont 16:01, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

I have another problem. It says that mixing sodium polyacrylate with alcohol will yield a magenta color. Not only does this require some sort of source but I have mixed sodium polyacrylate↔pmore--122.175.180.156 (talk) 14:50, 13 November 2016 (UTC) with 3 different alcohols, isopropyl, methyl and ethyl, without this effect. I don't see it either (only tested with ethanol†). Nor does Google suggest any refs. If no-one can reproduce this, or explain how, I'll remove it shortly. Joel.Gilmore 06:39, 20 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi! For me, it would be great if it could be mentioned whether it is a chemical or physical reaction when sodium polyacrylate is mixed with water. Thank you Peter

pretty sure it's a physical reaction; it eventually dries. There is a little heat of solution though because fake snow gets colder than the water you mix with it. 75.87.130.113 (talk) 07:14, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

It's both. This is a salt that dissociates in water as it dissolves, into sodium cations and a poly-anion. That allows for the anions to be kept in solution, as they repel each other, resisting precipitation. Morycm (talk) 00:42, 27 November 2023 (UTC)
