The id Software Guys
editIs it really worth mentioning the id Software founders under "key people"? Did they really do anything there that makes them worthy of being on that list?
This is a very good point as the id founders were just workers there, it didn't seem that they actually stayed around long enough to really put the place on the map. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.103.230.184 (talk) 07:28, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- It's important as they became very famous after that, with games like Wolf3D, Doom and Quake. And Softdisk is part of their history, as they started to create the Commander Keen games while still being in Softdisk, and continued to make game for the magazine some months after leaving Softdisk and creating id, due to some contract agreements. Jay Wilbur, who was manager at Softdisk and recruited Romero, later joined id as a manager. I think a special section could be added to mention that the id team (John Romero, John Carmack, Tom Hall, Adrian Carmack, Jay Wilbur) met and worked there before founding their company, and create their famous shooters.[1] Swantiez (talk) 19:00, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

- Jay Wilbur was the manager of Apple II and IBM-compatible software development at Softdisk.[1] He later helped in the secret development of Commander Keen outside of Softdisk by being manager, cooking ribs and making sure there was enough soda. Eventually, when Ideas From The Deep became id Software and broke off from Softdisk, he stayed behind. While id was finishing Wolfenstein 3D and fired their biz guy Mark Rein, they asked Jay to run the business side of things, and he went with the team. He later left id to join Epic MegaGames, now known as Epic, and helped create the Unreal games.[2] Swantiez (talk) 18:49, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
