"The Turkish government had previously stated that all of the Turkish leaders during the time of the Armenian Genocide had been tried, sentenced, and killed. When Tehlirian killed Talaat Pasha in Berlin, the former Turkish leader had already been considered dead."

Can you give sources for this?--Kagan the Barbarian 12:58, 14 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I suspect no citation is possible. That was an argument made by Tehlirian's legal council. It is important to note, and this is noted in the court documentation, that the judge dismissed the argument of Pasha already being considered dead.

what do you mean when using the word legal here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.175.133.30 (talk) 13:44, 29 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

Date of Birth

edit

Tehlirian's remains are at a memorial in the center of the Masis Ararat Cemetery in Fresno, CA. The stone reads clearly that he was born on April 15, 1896 and died on May 23, 1960. There seems to be a discrepancy with the dates in this article and his headstone. Interior Minister>Prime Minister

edit

Correction: my edit-summary should have been, "yes, but i meant he was never a prime minister during the genocide." I believe the use of the term 'Interior Minister' to characterize Talaat Pasha is most suitable for him and especially for this article. For one, Talaat wasn't assassinated for what he did as a Prime Minister, rather he was assassinated for his role in the massacres as Interior Minister. Adding that he assassinated 'Prime Minister' Talaat would be misleading for the reader since the reader would perhaps research Talaat under the basis of his post as Prime Minister instead of Interior Minister. That would be confusing for some, especially when Talaat served as prime minister a couple of years after the Armenian Genocide and promulgation of the Tehcir Kanun. Besides, Talaat is more known as an Interior Minister. On Google Books, 'Interior Minister Talaat' yields 468 results and 'Interior Minister Talat' yields 1950 results. On the other hand, 'Prime Minister Talaat' yields only 110 results while 'Prime Minister Talat yields a measly 141. Étienne Dolet (talk) 21:51, 22 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

I do believe that the wording in the lead may need to be improved to something like: "Soghomon Tehlirian was an Armenian Genocide survivor who assassinated Talaat Pasha for his role in the Armenian Genocide as Interior Minister of the Ottoman Empire...." Armenian terrorist is described subtly as innocent and victim

edit

Describing a terrorist murderer like national hero is impressive work of armenian diaspora in wikipedia. Congrats them all really.--78.189.170.134 (talk) 17:53, 22 May 2015 (UTC) By the way http://www.sueddeutsche.de/politik/voelkermord-der-adler-1.2442261?reduced=trueReply

Terrorist? Don't think so

edit

This man was no terrorist. He annihilated a man for his role in a genocide, sorry if this undermines the typical denialist propaganda. --92slim (talk) 16:45, 28 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

PS. Apparently I was reverted because I'm a "nationalist asshole". Sorry, WP:NOTCENSORED applies; this is a relevant discussion. --92slim (talk) 00:15, 1 June 2015 (UTC)Reply
I don't have a problem if turks want to consider him a terrorist because saying that turks consider him a terrorist is factual just like saying that armenians regard Tehlirian as someone doing his duty as a soldier is factual. That can be written in the wiki. One man's hero is another man's terrorist. This is something that should be published, talked about, spread in all history books. I say that as an armenian. When I talk about the genocide with others, that's how I explain it. There is also some history with the greeks vs turks in 1820, italy vs turks, russian vs turks, england vs turks before the genocide happened. The ottoman empire entered the killing fields for a very long time. Vmelkon (talk) 21:34, 9 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Semi-protected edit request for images on 20 March 2022

edit

Please add a picture of the current renovations to the Soghomon Tehlirian monument by replacing the monument image with the following two images.

Soghomon Tehlirian monument on his grave in Ararat Cemetery in Fresno, California with the incorrect date of birth (1969). The cemetery's website incorrectly list his date of birth as April 15, 1896.

The renovated Soghomon Tehlirian monument in Ararat Cemetery in Fresno, California (March 20th, 2022).

This edit should be done because the monument no longer has an incorrect date of birth, but the website still does. Furthermore, the cited source is incorrect and does not lead to anywhere. I also added the renovated version of the monument that should be added with the revised old image.
