The instrumental is played at the beginning of the 1939 film The Little Princess and apparently Nigel Green's character in The Ipcress File whistles it. It was a famous song in its day but it's hard to find a recording with the lyrics.--Johnbull (talk) 22:16, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Written as "The Soldiers of the Queen"

This piece was written as "The Soldiers of the Queen" in the mid to late 1890s during the reign of Queen Victoria. It was only after her death in 1901 that it became known as "Soldiers of the King". Lyrics Incorrect

I believe the lyrics quoted here are a much later and 'politically corrected' version. The original version is quite different.

Possibly not what you mean, but surely the word "not" is omitted twice in the opening stanza. The version sung on the most distinct recording I linked to above is clearly "we're not forgetting it, we're not letting it" and that is also the version sung on Breaker Morant.
