Rename Category?
editJust a beginning on this aria page, but was wondering: Given the observation at fn.1 on Gioachino Rossini, should "Category:Arias by Gioacchino Rossini" be renamed to "Category:Arias by Gioachino Rossini"? – Lackingdirection (talk) 16:31, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hi. It probably should, but it can't be done by simply changing the spelling of the category on the article page. It results in a non-existent category. Requests to rename categories have to be made at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion. Voceditenore (talk) 09:19, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
Source of English translation?
editJust a quick question about the translation into English... What is the source of that translation? It needs to be credited in the article and if it was one published or created after 1923, copyright restrictions mean we can't use it. Voceditenore (talk) 09:19, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
- I had thought that would be an issue, so I put away my libretti and did a translation from the French myself (which probably means it could be improved upon!). It does have some similarities to other translations, particularly in the shorter phrases, but then each translation seems to have those similarities to all others... I do have a published English translation from 1839, but it's from the Italian rather than the French (and there are some differences) - would it be better to use that perhaps? At least it could be referenced clearly I suppose.
- Thanks for cleaning up my other mistakes/omissions Voce - sorry for the capitalisation error. I did look at some guidelines though :) and there read about redirects wrt diacritics, so had created one at Sombre Foret - does that need to change too now? Thanks again! – Lackingdirection (talk) 09:52, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
- If it's your own translation, that's fine. Re similarities of phrase, sometimes there really is only one optimal way to translate something, so I don't see that as a problem. I fixed the redirect. ;-) Best, Voceditenore (talk) 10:03, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
- That's great - thanks yet again! I was hoping to expand on the analysis a bit at some point, but can't see any specific guidelines on how an aria/excerpt page should be constructed in WPO - do you know of a good example by any chance? Lackingdirection (talk) 10:15, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
- Madamina, il catalogo è questo is an excellent example. Ombra mai fu is OK but not as good as "Madamina". Just make sure that any analysis is referenced with footnotes to reliable published sources. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 10:22, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
