Game Informer preview

Can we get some stuff from this article worked into the text somewhere? Notable details include Modern and Classic Sonic retaining their respective gameplay styles from Sonic Generations, the presence of a third yet-to-be-revealed character and gameplay style, the premise centering around Eggman having already successfully conquered the world, and the presence of characters like Amy, Knuckles, etc. in NPC roles. -- 50.133.124.17 (talk) 03:38, 20 March 2017 (UTC)

Yes, at the very least I was planning on implementing this already. Sergecross73 msg me 03:58, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
No worries. Now that the page is no longer protected, I went in and added the details myself. -- 50.133.124.17 (talk) 22:25, 20 March 2017 (UTC)

Reception section

Is it wise to put up a Reception / Review page for Sonic Forces when the game isn't even out yet and nobody has even had a chance to play it at all? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.77.202.180 (talk) 10:58, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

Games have reception when they are announced and gameplay previews before they are released, so ones by reliable sources are able to be added to the article. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 15:15, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
"Pre-release" reception sections are commonplace when an article is made well before release. It'll be shortened and/or removed once regular reviews start rolling in. Sergecross73 msg me 15:47, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

Screenshots issue

Are three images really necessary to illustrate the Gameplay section? The third criteria of WP:NFCCP states that copyrighted images should be used sparingly, yet there are three images present. I believe there is a way to visualise what is described in Gameplay without using so many copyrighted images.

Perhaps it should be replaced with a singular screenshot of either Modern Sonic or Classic Sonic gameplay, with its caption explaining the two game styles. We can also move the part about the customisable characters currently present in the caption to Gameplay.

Thanks for hearing me out. If there are no objections within a few days, I will proceed to make the above points present in the article. Manfred (talk) 03:57, 29 May 2017 (UTC)

As there are no objections (from five days), I'll act on this. ~ Manfred (talk page) 06:31, 3 June 2017 (UTC)
Final Fantasy VII's article has multiple non-free images and just became a featured article, so I'm not sure if this is really a problem outside of those who follow the overzealous image policies. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 20:05, 4 June 2017 (UTC)
@Dissident93: I would argue that Final Fantasy VII's use of images is justified because it shows very different elements of the game that are not able to be visualised by just text. This is different; there are differentiating gameplay types, but it's easier to visualise. It doesn't really matter in the end, but I would say that it's better to adhere to guidelines where possible. ~ Manfred (talk page) 04:26, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
Would just like to point out that I HATE the use of the Modern screenshot. It's just Sonic standing still. The Custom Hero one was a better choice, as it demonstrates what's new in Forces (i.e. the Custom Heroes and the Wispons), whereas the Sonic Generations gameplay section, which we link back to, has images clearly representing the other two gameplay styles. Furthermore, as it stands, Modern and Classic have only one or two sentences describing their gameplay, while a sizable portion is used to explain the Custom Heroes; wouldn't it make more sense for the image to represent what the majority of the text is about? -- 68.32.218.140 (talk) 03:41, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
I agree. It was originally like that until others edited it. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 05:14, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
Nothing stopping you from changing it back, then, unless JoeBro's got a better case for the Modern image than "it was the first one". If no one's raised any reasonable objections by the time protection expires, I'm changing it back. -- 68.32.218.140 (talk) 05:49, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
Well I also agree, and did just that. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 06:13, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

Release date leaks

There have been some reports (I looked on normal Google, not the WP:VG trusted sources) that the release date for this game has been leaked. Until officially announced by Sega, please do not make this change. Thank you. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 19:49, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

Again, @Tuanpingas and Zacharyalejandro: Please understand why Dissident93 is reverting your edits: the sources you have provided are unreliable and Sega has not made any official statement with regards to the exact release date of the game, to my knowledge. Please refer to WP:VG/RS before considering re-adding the information. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 21:09, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
@Zacharyalejandro: Read above; I pinged the wrong person. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 21:09, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

Avatar Gender

It's already confirmed that you can play as either a male or female Avatar; the male will be clotheless(unless you put on clothes), and the female might wear a jumpsuit of some sorts. Can someone please add back the "Video games featuring protagonists of selectable gender" category? HarmonyBunny (talk) 07:07, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

Do you have a reliable source that says this is the case? Please refer to WP:VG/RS for what we look for. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 07:09, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
Technically, they showed off the male and female Avatars in the demos, especially the new Tag Team gameplay demo. So it's highly likely that we'll be able to select either male or female when we first create an Avatar character. HarmonyBunny (talk) 07:11, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
Likely, but not verified, so it doesn't belong. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 17:22, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
Let's wait until the full reveal of the character creation panel, then we'll talk. HarmonyBunny (talk) 11:39, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
Of course, then it can be verified, which is the entire issue here. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 09:25, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
Yes, at the very least, it's the type of thing that'll be covered by the time reviews start being released. For now, we can just leave it gender neutral. Honestly, it would probably be more bizarre if you could only create male characters, really, so I imagine readers probably assume you could create a female character unless notified otherwise. Sergecross73 msg me 12:15, 31 August 2017 (UTC)
Okay, it's now confirmed that you need to select the gender and species of your Avatar before customizing him/her. Thanks to a leaked stream of the full game. HarmonyBunny (talk) 12:13, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
Leaks are usually from unreliable sources in nature. Let's wait until the game's release or a statement from Sega. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk • contribs) 13:15, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
It's still a minor confirmation. Maybe it is best if we wait for the release date before we can really confirm this. HarmonyBunny (talk) 16:42, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
Now confirmed real. You can select the gender, species, eye shape and color, head shape, skin and fur color before customizing the Avatar. HarmonyBunny (talk) 07:08, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

Additional "Episode Shadow" story campaign

Per the Xbox Live Marketplace. "Get EPISODE SHADOW to uncover the untold story of the new villain, Infinite, and rediscover three updated stages playing as Shadow. Plus, play as Shadow in over 10 Modern Sonic based stages!"

Based on the phrasing, it seems that Shadow will have his own three-stage miniature story campaign and can be used in all of Modern Sonic's stages. (Also, the Bonus Edition apparently includes a Shadow costume on top of all the Sega outfits.) Could someone please try to integrate this information somewhere? -- 136.181.195.25 (talk) 13:59, 19 September 2017 (UTC)

Most of the sources I've seen classify it as a "Leak", so I don't think we can say any more than what exactly is stated at the Microsoft page. That being said, with the leak being spread a lot already, I imagine Sega will announce it shortly (if they haven't already). I'd personally rather add it at that point. Sergecross73 msg me 14:36, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
I mean, is it a leak if it shows up on an official storefront? Also, it's on the PSN listing now, and news sites have started doing writeups. -- 136.181.195.25 (talk) 14:39, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
Yes, its probably real, I'm just saying, if we wait what is probably a matter of minutes, we can just say "Sega announced" instead of "According to a listing on the Xbox Live Marketplace, it looks likely that...". Sergecross73 msg me 14:45, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
Well, it's official now. -- 136.181.195.25 (talk) 15:15, 19 September 2017 (UTC)

Information on the game's OST release

The official soundtrack, "A Hero Will Rise", and the vocal tracks album, "On The Edge", are both set to release December 13. Info comes from a first party source. Could someone please integrate this into the Release section? -- 136.181.195.25 (talk) 12:32, 12 October 2017 (UTC)

Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{edit semi-protected}} template. Per WP:NOTCRYSTAL we usually don't put in pre-release information. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 19:21, 14 October 2017 (UTC)
I already added it and I don't see why this would be rejected? And how would this be WP:NOTCRYSTAL? Using that logic, this entire article should be deleted since it's not November 7 yet. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 18:49, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
Because there's a difference between the game, which has significant and independent pre-release coverage, and the game's soundtrack, for which the independent sources at this time seem to be mere announcements and track listings. This is why WP:NOTCRYSTAL says: Until such time that more encyclopedic knowledge about the product can be verified,... That said, I have no objection that you interpreted this request differently form I and added it. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 19:04, 15 October 2017 (UTC)
For the record, I didn't use the edit semi-protected template; someone else added it later. And Dissident interpreted it exactly as I meant for it to be interpreted. -- 136.181.195.25 (talk) 16:34, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

Famitsu article

I've been meaning to bring this up for a while now, but apparently the Takashi Iizuka interview published in Famitsu has information relevant to the development of Forces. Should we add this information here? JOEBRO64 20:52, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
