How was Sonic REALLY created???
Sonics article says that he was created by, the Evolution of the Sonic Universe page states that he was a submition from a contest looking for the next big SEGA star. So where did Sonic really come from, and who is his original creator??
- Oshimi Naoto, I think is his name. He was the one who sent in the submission for the character thing.
- The original designer of the character was Naoto Oshima. The contest was internal and limited to Sega employees, and was not open to the public. --Guess Who 04:58, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure it was Yugi Naka who though of Sonic in a contest to determine Sega's new mascot to replace Alexx Kidd who was lacking the ability to defeat Mario. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.57.156.143 (talk) 00:27, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Sonic is 15 as described in game manuals since Sonic Adventure and the Sonic Channel website. He does not age in real time, just like Bart Simpson has been the same 10 year old kid for going on 20 years. Cigraphix 02:47, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Regarding Sonic's anthropomorphism
(NOTE: This section title was changed. It was originally ""SONIC IS A BLUE, MALE, HUMANOID, ANTHROPOMORPHIC, GLOVED, UPRIGHT-STANDING, FOOTED, BREATHING, LIVING, FICTIONAL, TEENAGE HEDGEHOG."".)
Listen you idiots, I'm sick of this. Stop editing this into his description. As if what Sonic is isn't already extremely obvious to anyone who sees his picture or even reads the fucking name of this article, you people deem it completely necessary to list an endless amount of redundant terms to describe him to people, like him being "blue", "anthropomorphic", "male" and "humanoid". YES, WE GET IT. HE'S AN ANTHRO HEDGEHOG, SHUT THE HELL UP. The fact that somebody always edits these redundant and idiotic descriptions back into the article makes me think that this page is exclusively edited only by stupid, horny furries. In any AU, Time can be a variable. So the ages of any fictional character can seem be arbitrary But IU, it makes perfect sense. Sabre Knight 19:41, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
The Sonic characters don't age. Sonic is 15, Knux is 16, Tails is 8, Amy is 12...you get the point. The only reason that their ages would change is due to a retcon. ChromeWulf ZX 02:06, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Cut from article
I deleted the following from the "Interactions with other characters" as it just clutters up the article and adds little. I also reworded the existing profiles of Tails, Knuckles, Amy Rose and his nemeses. ~~ Gromreaper(Talk)/(Cont) 10:49, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Cream the Rabbit
Sonic is also friends with Cream the Rabbit, a six year old female rabbit. Sonic does not converse with her very much, as they do not seem to share many interests. As is seen in Sonic Advance 2, Sonic is very impressed by her manners, though. In addition, the two of them seemed to make the biggest connection to Blaze the Cat in Sonic Rush.
Big the Cat
Sonic is acquainted with Big the Cat, an eighteen year old large purple cat. They interact in Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes, with Sonic rescuing Big's friend Froggy from Chaos and Big lending Sonic a Chaos Emerald in order for him to become Super Sonic.
Blaze the Cat
Blaze the Cat is a princess from another dimension, brought to Sonic's world due to a rip in the space-time continuum.[1][2] At first, the other characters suggest she should seek Sonic's help - Blaze denies this and wonders why they are so dependent on him. However, through working with Sonic in order to save the universe from Eggman and Eggman Nega, Blaze learns the value of friendship, and before she goes back to her own dimension, she promises to meet him again.
Emerl
Emerl is a robot with a sort of father-son relationship with Sonic. He formed a strong link with him. The two became close friends, with Sonic helping Emerl "grow up." At the end of Sonic Battle, when Emerl was near death, Sonic was in obvious emotional turmoil, though he never expressed sadness, rather distress.
Princess Elise
Princess Elise is the princess of Soleanna, and vessel of the "Flames of Disaster." As they are together, Sonic's company makes Elise truly happy for the first time ever since her father died. However, it has been revealed that it is only an one-sided love while Elise was having a conversation with Amy Rose. The relationship is unlikely to continue, as during Sonic the Hedgehog, their memories of each other were erased along with the entire storyline.
Shahra the Ring Genie
Shahra the Ring Genie made her first appearance in Sonic and the Secret Rings. Sonic's relationship with Shahra is very similar to his relationship with Elise. Shahra went to Sonic's world to ask for his help in order to save the world of the Arabian Nights from Erazor Djinn, a villainous genie. When Sonic and Shahra arrive inside the book Erazor shows up, and threatens Shahra's life by shooting a fire arrow at her; however, Sonic jumps in front of her and gets shot instead. Erazor then warns Sonic that the flame will burn his life away if he does not retrieve the seven World Rings for him.
Shahra then blames herself for what happened to Sonic, but he comforts her and tells her not to worry. At the end of the game after Erazor was defeated, Shahra starts crying and wishes to be back with him, Sonic then wishes for a mountain of handkerchiefs so that Shahra can cry as long as she wants to.
Team Chaotix
The three comical detectives known as Team Chaotix do not seem to know Sonic very well. They do however seem to have a friendly relationship and they were able to work together to defeat Metal Sonic without a problem.
- Jet the Hawk
Another one of Sonic's rivals is Jet the Hawk from Sonic Riders. Jet mocks him for being inexperienced with Extreme Gear (an air-powered hovercraft that comes in the form of skateboards, motorcycles & rollerblades) and does not respect Sonic's title of "fastest thing alive," sparking a rivalry between them.[3] Later, after Sonic beats Jet in a race, they become more friendly, but are still competitive as racing rivals.
old voices
i heard they are going to came back in the next game is that true? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sonicflames (talk • contribs) 01:28, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
I heard that too. I also heard that Big is making a reapearance, that their going to introduce a rainbow emerald, that Eggman's going to be fat again and that Shadow's going to marry Cream. Sorry if I seem sarcastic Sonicflames, but Sega is horribly inconsistent about "Next Game". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.222.74.43 (talk) 04:38, 24 September 2007 (UTC) i found an article on wikipedia about this... he possibility of Drummond returning to voice Sonic the Hedgehog was hinted at during the Digital Life Expo in New York City, by a Sega representative, who claimed that Sonic X was finishing its run, and that Sega would have "no reason" to use the 4Kids cast anymore after Sonic and the Secret Rings. Nothing further has been confirmed by Sega or any other entity. Sonic Rush Adventure used recycled voice clips from Sonic Rush, but used different voice actors for Whisker and Johnney. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.146.66.61 (talk) 00:39, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Sad thing is, they are using griffith again for Brawl (watch the trailer) so there goes that vote of confidence.--Neofcon 13:21, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
that might be but i have hope that they r using recycled voice from the sonic games like what they did with sonic riders they used ryan for the preview but when the game actually came out they used his 4kids voice —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.146.66.61 (talk) 06:23, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
That line has never been used in any sonic game thus far.--Neofcon 15:45, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
I have to admit, I actually don't mind the 4Kids voices. The old voices are pretty good, too, though, so I won't mind them coming back. But they can't use Eggman's original voice actor, Deem Bristow, because he's dead. But then again, some people already knew that, right? Just about everyone, I bet. So who are they going to get to voice Eggman, do you think? Mkrox (talk) 03:52, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Sonic the Hedgehog article?
It strikes me that when people search for Sonic the Hedgehog, they are either looking for the character or the series. I purpose we change one of these to Sonic the Hedgehog (with nothing in parenthesis). Of course, this would require a massive change in many articles. We could still keep the information on the current Sonic the Hedgehog article, but it would be renamed Sonic the Hedgehog (disambiguation). Any thoughts on this? Has anybody suggested this before? Is it at all doable, or am I just being silly?
This idea is discussed under the same heading on Talk:Sonic the Hedgehog. Joiz A. Shmo 03:37, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Sonic the hedgehog 2006 game.png

FINAL SMASH!?
From the video on the SSBB site was Sonics final smash Super Sonic? or is that still TBA? FrosticeBlade 20:42, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Well I recently saw a gameplay video of Sonic becoming Super Sonic on Youtube that is from Gamespot. Although it may be a while before that info will show up on the SSBB website at least there is a demo video out there that can verify this claim. For a description of this Final Smash is that it is a temporary power-up transformation like Bowser and Diddy Kongs' Final Smash attacks and in this form Super Sonic can fly around in his gold colors with some glittering effects and targets can be hurt by flying into them. -Adv193 22:00, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

Mascot Rivalry
Do we really need the mascot rivalry section added in Sonic's character section? I mean we know that he and Mario were once rivals but I feel as though the "Mascot Rivalry" part is kind of unnecessary and sounds kind a bit fanboyish (no offense to the person who put this). Also, I find the term "visualize" inaccurate. Also, It's a little pointless to have a mascot rivalry thing if you are only refering to just one mascot (Mario). It would help if you add in other of Sonic's rival franchises such as Crash Bandicoot, etc. Thank You! - B.J. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.247.23.167 (talk) 01:26, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
I tried, but whatever. Too many people just feel it's necessary to feed their egos.
Do as you please. --Neofcon 01:38, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Actually I think it's a fine addition. This article needs to be as out of universe as possible, and there's nothing better to do that than Sonic and Mario's age old rivalry. Lets keep it in the real world, not Sonic's world.GrandMasterGalvatron 06:49, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
- Just remember that Mario and Sonic are going to meet in two games (Super Smash Bros Brawl and Sonic and Mario at the Olympics), within the next 6 months. They are meeting, and if you look back into the promotional video for Starfox 64, you can see a Sega Employee attempting to destroy a Mario doll. The Mascot Rivalry is real. Fangz the Wolf 15:26, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Mind showing us this video to confirm it's not crap?--Neofcon 17:39, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Also, there wasn't any REAL WORLD rivalry between two mascots. It was all media hype GMG.--Neofcon 17:46, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
I agree with Neofcon. Even if it is real, it doesn't prove a thing. If you go to Mario's character section, they have a link to show you that their rivalry has ended in 2001. In fact, When Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and Sonic Advance were hitting the Gamecube, they showed an official video of Mario greeting Sonic and welcoming him to Nintendo and playing Sonic's new game together. I think it should be somewhere at Nintendo.com, but I'll see if I could locate it for you guys. Thank you! - B.J.
I just removed the section since it was unsourced. Cat's Tuxedo 23:01, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

- I don't. It isn't Sonic's offical art style and thus doesn't truely illustrate his character. It's best in some other section. Cigraphix 16:16, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Unless it was designed by sega themselves, im inclined to agree with cig.--Neofcon 21:43, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Is Sonic City (http://www.sonic-city.com) a reliable source?
The following was posted in Talk:Knuckles_the_Echidna before being moved here:
- I am skeptical about why they would prefer to put fan input into their character descriptions. Some portions, like "Sonic's creators, programmer Yuji Naka and designer Naoto Ohshima, were rocketed to stardom along with SEGA as a company and none have looked back since."leave me to believe it's more "fan input" than usual because most official sites don't list background information as "character concept and creation" info. And for one thing, Knuckles never earned a reputation to being a "strongest sonic character" (especially for having knuckles the size of doritos) there's the account of shadow, big, and other such characters who's strengths are practically equal, and it's mainly lifting strength rather than the amount of power they have in one punch (and I dont recall any evidence of him lifting objects times his own size.) Plus there's this tid bit "The ongoing conflict between Knuckles and Sonic in games, comics and TV shows has led to some of the most clichéd scenes of the series, in which their petty bickering quickly turns to fisticuffs. Fortunately for their friendship, they are always interrupted (thus it is never revealed which is the more powerful of the two). If they WORK for sega and know at least anything about what sonic team has done for the franchise, then why would they say "it is never revealed" when they can EASILY reveal it themselves?." Along with the information about Blaze the cat seems like they have no clue as to what they are talking about. For the most part, they dont explain whether or not Blaze is from the future or another dimension and sounds as if they made educated guesses about her being queen to princess then shift to friends/not friends with Silver. It's hardly plausible. Then this "Though Tails is a male character, there have always been rumours among fans that he is in fact female." There hasn't been a single rumor like that.--Neofcon (talk) 18:47, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
- I was going to bring this up but you beat me to it: Sonic City's bios are a little odd. It seems more like they were either written by a fan or someone who went to Wikipedia and the fan forums for info than like they came from official Sonic Team info. That "Tails is a girl" rumor (which has been posted – and deleted - several times on Tails's page is not something that really promotes the character, the Sonic series, or Sega in particular, in any way. Normally I say that the absolute best sources are from Sega, but this is making me question that. Perhaps Sega of Europe is that far removed from Sonic Team that they are out of the loop - I don't know. (But your arguement about Knuckles's strength has holes since he has shown strength to lift things several times his size - in SA2 Meteor Herd, he smashes around massive rocks that are numerous times his size like he was in a home run derby; and in Battle he pulls a rock out of the ground twice his size in one special attack --actually it's Shadow that has never shown strength on par with any power character - overturning trucks 'with effort' is not the same as lifting them above his head) Cigraphix (talk) 01:02, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

- He's punching meteors, not lifting them (though it is a gameplay element, along with him pulling boulders out of the ground so I hardly doubt thats official) but yeah, Europe isn't really trying to provide factual info we don't already know and seems reliant on fan input for everything (they actually list cheats on video games as "trivia" for god knows what.)--Neofcon (talk) 01:14, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Though I'm sure they have taken some liberties with the way the information is written (it seems to be written for children to find easy to read), I do believe that the site is a reliable source (being as it is, an official Sonic site, I'm sure SEGA do have control over the content). The constant brawl info needs to end
Feel free to move this to the series pages but the information about Sonic being in Brawl is already well known. But people feel the need to keep restating this fact through multiple edits. The screen shot of him being in brawl is constantly being placed in the "cameos section" and people keep describing his abilities being shown in brawl when they aren't official abilities. There are also vandals spreading false info of other sonic characters appearing in the game alongside sonic along with sonic's final smash being posted on the main series page CONSISTENTLY! I know people are excited, I know people can't wait, but none of this excuses the over excessive amount of information being posted disregarding what the article's and their sections are about.--Neofcon (talk) 03:43, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
