The incredibly high complexity of this CPU and the absence of any predecessor CPUs in this line, could suggest that Sony partnered with other companies in its' development. The ARM926 core was also used in the Freescale i.MX21 processor line developed around the same time, and Freescale i.MX 1 chips were used in other Sony Clie models like the TJ37. The "2230GA" in the processor name could also plausibly correspond to an ATI Imageon graphics accelerator, who at the time were developing a series of Imageon 22xx mobile graphics accelerators that would be capable of offering the same caliber of multimedia capabilities that the Sony CPU included[1].
