Soroko (surname) → ? – I think that this page should be changed to either "Soroka" or "Soroka (surname)" because there are significantly more Wikipedia article about people surnamed "Soroka" than the combined number for other spelling variants mentioned in the lead. Half of the 10 people mentioned were Sorokas before my additions of other people surnamed "Soroka" to this page (see Special:Diff/995449456/1016242788). There were no Sorok(k)os or Sarokas to add. Apparently, the dab page was created (Special:Diff/751846093) in 2016 with four people all surnamed Sorok(k)o, and would be out-numbers by Sorokas added by Special:Diff/751846093/833503033 and by me. I believe it is time for a change to reflects the addition of Sorokas. (added 06:28, 7 April 2021 (UTC))

However, I am wondering whether Soroka (surname) would make for a better title since I think Mike is the primary topic of "Soroka" - but it is outside the scope of this discussion. Thanks and don't bite me, DePlume (talk) 04:11, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

Not to be confused with the concurrent request for "Soroko" to be moved to "Soroko, Benin", which is now closed.

I'm sensing there is more to this. You want to change Soroka to redirect to the baseball player? What do you want to do at Soroko? Soroka (surname) or Soroko (surname) is all the same to me so long as they both point to the same list of people, so I'd support that change at least. It would be good to at least create Soroka (surname) even if it is only a redirect to here.

Just for reference, there is a contested move request at Wikipedia:Requested_moves/Technical_requests#Contested_technical_requests concerning moving Soroko. Everyone should probably be on the same page about what is intended to happen. Lithopsian (talk) 14:49, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

It is less of a question of primary topics than it is a request to move away from the current title, which is ill-fitted (only 2 Sorokos v 10 Sorokas). We can debate about Mike later and separately as it is not the focus of the discussion (although I admit that this very discussion is laying its foundation). As for Soroko, I would like it redirected to Soroka or Soroka (surname) with a hatnote about Benin on top of it, if the other move request is successful. --Thanks and don't bite me, DePlume (talk) 18:42, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

• Oppose Soroka → Mike Soroka. He might be the best-known Soroka, but he's not a household name, especially outside North America. I would actually support splitting Soroko (surname) and Soroka (surname). There are other instances of multiple dab pages for related, but differently-spelled, surnames. Noted, it would be a discussion worth having. As far as this RM, I'm going to Support splitting Soroko (surname) and Soroka (surname). I just looked at Russian and Ukrainian Wikipedia, and neither of their Soroka dab pages mention Soroko. • Would you like me to raise a non-binding and separate discussion regarding the primary topic, if any, of the word "Soroka" in isolation? If yes, where should it be? • @Lithopsian, Crouch, Swale, and In ictu oculi: I have some updates:
  • Soroko (disambiguation) has been created an hour ago by the last user, who put a link to the place in Benin and people named Sorok(k)o there. In light of that, I have removed all Sorok(k)oes from this page lest they are listed twice. However, it would now require this page to be renamed speedily to avoid confusions between the two pages.
  • I hope to have consensus to speedily move this page to either Soroka (disambiguation) or Soroka (surname) (I prefer the former as being more inclusive of things like place names) as an interim measure until the results of my RfD is out.
