Broken links,
editQuestionable NPOV, opinions, and information unrelated to diet sprinkled in. Not gonna tag it without others opinions however.
Issues with WP:ESSAY and WP:SYNTHESIS
editThis article reads very much like an essay, and conflates the issues of diet trends (low fat, gluten-free) with Soul Food in a way that isn't really a single topic. Essentially, nothing listed is a "trend" of Soul Food, but rather how Soul Food reacts to external dietary trends or fads. It's like having an article on "Pad Thai" then one on "low-fat Pad Thai". I'll point out that it was made by a Wiki-ed user, and I sincerely hope they learned valuable skills from writing it, but I think enough time has passed to where it's time to examine how this fits in an encyclopedia.
The main Soul Food article section Health Concerns sums up a lot of the same information without the ESSAY issues, but it's also really weak. I think there might be some sources in this article that can help that section. There's good potential for adding content like vegan soul food, or influences from Rastafarian (which is vegan as well). Either way, fixing these issues takes time and some manner of sensitivity, but I think I'm in the same boat as the IP comment prior to mine: WP:BOLD is not the ideal way about it.
TLDR: Either this article should be renamed and reworked into something else (I don't know what exactly, but "health trends" doesn't do it for me), or it should be merged into the main Soul Food article. Estheim (talk) 17:53, 21 September 2021 (UTC)
- There is a lot of synthesis going on in all three of the modification subsections. The sugar one doesn't even have a soul reference. The fat one uses one irrelevant source, one somewhat relevant medical source, and one recipe website essay. The gluten part uses one irrelevant medical source and the same essay. Split into Healthy soul food and Soul food and health?
editSoul food health trends is about Healthy soul food and Soul food and health, and the article is confusing because of that. If splitting doesn't look right, some of the content could be merged into Soul food Health concerns instead? What do you think? BurqueMesa (talk) 05:04, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
- I'm okay with stating some health issues as the background for modifications, so I oppose the split in principle. But the current article handles modifications very poorly, to the point that it's probably best deleted with sources salvaged to the health concerns section of the main article. Proposal to Delete This Page
editThis article is very poorly written and in the style of a personal essay. It does not belong on Wikipedia and is not written in the encyclopedia style. Moreover, the topic is obscure and not notable at all. 2603:8081:6440:FC:48AF:8DE:5C2E:3141 (talk) 15:09, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
