Street Fighter 2 Source Port?
editHi.
Does anyone know if there is a source port of Street Fighter 2 around anywhere? It sounds like it wouldn't be too hard to make- after all it's only 2D whereas Doom and Quake etc. are 3D. It could use the graphics/ sound from the PS2 or XBOX versions of it.

- Sorry, that isn't possible, the idea of a source port is that the source code for the game has been released as it has with Doom, Quake, etc (but not the art, and sound files). The source code for street fighter 2 has not been released, so it would be someone writing a new game engine.
- As such, it would be more appropriate to ask on the talk page of game engine recreation. -- Darklock 23:26, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Usage of the term
editDoes the term "source port" refer only to porting game engines, or any computer program ported to previously unsupported platforms using its source code? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Zoef1234 (talk • contribs) 15:42, 29 April 2007 (UTC).
- No the term "source port" is gamer slang for "old game software project" in the sense of game engine recreation. The term originates form the early projects based on the Doom source release: the released source was only the Linux version. Since Doom was originally a DOS game the first step of all those projects was to port the released source code back to DOS (or Windows) in order to reach the game's main audience. The term is misleading as gamers tend to call any fan based software project to play a game, that requires the original game data, a source port. Regardless of the fact that no porting or even access to the original source code might be involved with the development of the individual project. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.175.197.50 (talk) 07:23, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
