Prose is clear…

I think you're missing a word here; the sentence feels off.

Lead section

The lead section should note that neither of South Africa's two athletes advanced.

Verifiable with no original research

Citations are reliably, and the stuff that should be cited is cited

• "From 1964 until 1992, South Africa was banned from the Olympics"

The article cited for the sentence only includes information on when South Africa was banned, not when the country was re-instated. You can correct this by solely noting the year South Africa was banned, or adding another citation for the 1992 date.

Done, added UPI source (new citation 3)

• "His failure to finish was caused by leaving the starting gate too early, and then attempting to walk back up a "few meters"."

This statement needs a source.

• Same Reuters source as the end of the paragraph, but now the citation is repeated.
• "At least one account has him listed as a disqualification..."

This is based on the statement of another skier, not an official source. This should probably be clarified.

• "In his event, the men's sprint, he posted a time of 4 minutes and 4 seconds in the qualifying round, which placed him in 61st position"

This statement contains numerous statistics, so it should have a source.

Again, cited at the end of the paragraph, but repeated the same citation.

• I'd like some clarification on how runs work in alpine skiing. The article notes that Scott was numbered 97 in the alpine race, and went off on the first run. I'm assuming that alpine races are staggered so not everyone goes off at once, but I'd like some confirmation on this assumption.

• Typically it works like this: Skiers in the morning go out based on bib order, 1 through however many skiers there are, spaced out by a few moments. They all leave the same starting gate, usually about 30 seconds apart. Then, later in the day, they go again, this time from slowest in the first run, to fastest in the first run being last to go. Total time from both runs determines final placement, and a skier MUST finish both runs to be classified. Courcelles (talk) 01:52, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

The criteria was generally met, although there were a few areas where additional information is needed:

• The background section should note the specific reason that South Africa was banned from the Olympics (Apartheid) and the reason it was unbanned (presumably because Apartheid ended).

• It looks like South Africa is sending a team to the 2018 Winter Olympics, so you should update the background section.

• THey did, but this is background for the 2010 Games, what they did afterwards is not relevant to a background section for these Olympics. Other wise, you'd be updating this article every four years just to say, "Yep, they showed up again". Courcelles (talk) 01:54, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

Both images are relevant, and the picture of the opening ceremony is captioned. The flag of South Africa was created by the Wikimedia Community from specifications in the COnstitution of South Africa, a public domain text under South African copyright law. The picture of the South Africa team was released under a compatible Creative Commons license by the photographer.
