2nd South Australian Contingent
editTrooper Henry Colley Hawker served in the 2nd South Australian Contingent and is listed in Murray, in George A Newbury’s South Australians and the South African War 1899-1902: being an alphabetical roll of those who took part, 1988, ISBN 0731644948 and online at http://members.pcug.org.au/~croe/ozb/oz_boer_more.cgi?record=9093 Henry Hawker was born in South Australia, served with the Royal Navy and made his own way to South Africa to serve with the South Australian Contingent. - "providing reconnaissance for the army of Frederick Roberts". I think that it would be normal to give Roberts' rank rather than just his name.
