Third train

I know that there is a third train on the Railway, because I've seen it with my own eyes. It is a single unit railcar. I've found a few peripheral references by googling:

this is OR (I phoned the pier!), but it might help - it is British, built in 1996, and has a 4hp electric motor powered by lead-acid batteries. It is used only for staff movements. If I find any more, I'll let you know! regards, Lynbarn (talk) 15:23, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

A 3-axle battery powered single passenger car built by Castleline of Nottingham entered service in November 1995 for winter use; it is numbered 1835, the year that Southend Pier first appeared on Admiralty charts. (from this thread, item 13)

Unfortunately 1995 is just a little too early for web-searchable press releases, and forums like that one are not normally regarded as good sources, although that post is pretty professional looking and I'm tempted to chance it and risk a revert. I'm guessing that it was originally bought for winter service (buying a railcar for staff movements on 1.3 mi long pier would seem a little profligate; a bike or two would be a lot cheaper) but it didn't prove successful in that role. I know it is 14 years since these posts, but Easdown, 2007 "Southend Pier" has two pictures and a little information. Industrial Locomotives Handbook 16EL also mentions it. I'll add something. Bob1960evens (talk) 22:30, 23 July 2024 (UTC)

Preserved 1949 coach

The Lynn Tait Gallery in Leigh had an AC Cars coach recovered from Tal-y-Cafn. Does anyone know what happened to it after the gallery closed in 2017? Murgatroyd49 (talk) 11:54, 30 January 2022 (UTC)

Yes. It could not be removed from the building without knocking down a wall or removing part of the roof, and so was left in situ. It is now part of the cafe that trades in the Old Foundry, and can be seen much more easily than it could when it was surrounded by items from the gallery. You can see it through the window on Google street view, and I have just uploaded two pictures to Commons. (use Commonscat link on article) Bob1960evens (talk) 17:09, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

Merger of Pier stations into main article

As per the following conversations I have redirected the pages of the Shore and Pier Head stations to here. There was nothing to merge as the article already had the same info.

@Davidstewartharvey Yes. Anyone consulting WP about this railway should not have to visit three separate articles (which must inevitably repeat much info, map, infobox) to learn about a point-to-point shuttle. Good suggestion. -- Verbarson  ^talk_edits 16:14, 16 June 2024 (UTC)

Good idea, none of the articles are so long that a split is necessary. I've added formal merge tags to the articles and noted at Talk:Pier Head railway station (Essex) to discuss it here (to keep discussion in one place - it would be silly to merge one and not the other).
