Mexican flag
editDiscrepancy: That bird is not on the Mexican flag, the correct bird is the golden eagle
- Eating snakes while perched on a cactus is more like a caracara, but the bird symbol is mythological anyway. It is an eagle, no matter what the legendary original observation was of (Hard to think that a state would choose a vulture-falcon to represent itself when there were eagles available...) Subspecies
editHBW2 lists 4 extant (Tres Marias, Northern, Central, Southern America, basically). What happened? Dysmorodrepanis 01:41, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
- see Carla J. Dove & Richard C. Banks, 1999. Link given under references in article itself. Rabo3 (talk) 13:45, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Binomial name
editI've also seen it referred to as Caracara plancus, a combination of the two already mentioned in the article. What's up with that? --Ptcamn 15:07, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
Teaxo review?
editI think I got it: check Auk 117:847, the AOU split it in 2000. Since it's "their" bird, I guess it's good. Dysmorodrepanis 22:13, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
Photos
editAre the photos true? Commons: Polyborus (Caracara) plancus !!!--Ben Skála (talk) 16:17, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Question
editIn the "Behavior" section, it says that the caracara is an omnivorous scavenger, favoring carrion, but after that, only animals are mentioned, no plants. Is this a mistyping or something? 89.242.73.126 (talk) 15:46, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
