Ingredients changes 04/17

edit

Spam no longer contains "Pork Shoulder and Ham". The ingredients have changed, and this article must change to reflect the current reality. The ingredients as of 04/2017 begin with "Pork with ham ..." and continue from there. No mention of pork shoulder. So please, let's let the article reflect this important change. Otherwise, it is misleading. There is a HUGE difference between some random piece of "pork" - and pork shoulder. 98.194.39.86 (talk) 01:24, 12 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Random pork does not mean it doesn't contain shoulder, does it? Do you have any reference for the ingredients of SPAM, in particular documentation of the ham content109.57.40.73 (talk) 09:53, 26 January 2020 (UTC)?Reply

Make primary topic?

Should this be moved to "Spam"? Bod (talk) 19:16, 20 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Bodhi Peace, No, I think spam is appropriate as a disambiguation page. ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:39, 25 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Removal of Israel

edit

There are a few references throughout Wikipedia that link to the brand-name product loof as Spam (food)#Israel which no longer exists and, as best I can tell, hasn't for some time. See, e.g., Shakshouka, Loof. This was commonly known as "Israel’s kosher alternative to Spam," though it was made of beef and basically minced corned-beef. Someone may have wisdom as to whether the section can and should be recovered or those links killed off or redirected.Czrisher (talk) 13:25, 13 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

>This was commonly known as "Israel’s kosher alternative to Spam"
Ah.
>and basically minced corned-beef
Bully beef x SPAM combination, I hear you. Apparently it's a thing indeed.

ARCHIVE.ORG is your friend! Regards, 81.89.66.133 (talk) 06:25, 14 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
For reference, the section heading "Israel" was deleted 20:37, 25 April 2019 by User:Nightscream, with the note, "You cannot divide a section into only one subsection". The body of that section was kept under an old supersection titled "Middle East".
This section titled "Middle East" was deleted 14:07, 5 July 2021 by User:Zooks527, with the note, "Deleted 'Middle East' section, which, while directed towards canned meat, had nothing to do with Spam." Thatsme314 (talk) 03:56, 20 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

"Spam" as in "low quality"??? I had another story (regards, Randy from ZeBush)

edit
>By the 1990s, Spam's reputation as a low quality food led to its name being adopted for unsolicited electronic messages, especially spam email

I used to read a different story: post-WWII demand for canned food was significantly lower, especially for SPAM; so the company started to advertise SPAM as hard as possible. As result, "spamming" became a word for unavoidable, stubborn ad, rather than just an ad for something wonky. 81.89.66.133 (talk) 14:59, 13 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Untrue and unsourced statement

edit

'Spam has long had a somewhat dubious reputation in the United States and (to a lesser degree) in the United Kingdom as a poverty food. The image of Spam as a low-cost meat product gave rise to the Scottish colloquial term "Spam valley" to describe certain affluent housing areas where residents appear to be wealthy but, in reality, may be living at poverty levels.' I don't understand why it sais to a 'lesser degree in the UK' and then quotes slang from Scotland which very strongly hints at it being considered poverty food in the UK. This seems contradictory and is unsourced. From personal experience this is also untrue. Spam is far more regarded as poverty food in the UK compared to the US. For example Spam is even served at some McDonald's restaurants in the US but this would never happen in the UK where Spam is seen as something from the post WW2 rationing era and not something many people would buy no matter how down on their luck they were. 2A00:23C7:5AD0:8F01:EF1B:84D0:B597:6BDE (talk) 09:30, 22 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

If you have a quality source describing the sale of spam at McDonald’s, that might be interesting to include. TurnipWatch (talk) 11:41, 21 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Needs clarification:

edit

“ The popularity of Spam in the Philippines transcends economic class, and the canned product is even given during holidays.”

Does it mean “given as a gift” or something else? It should be clarified. Rustygecko (talk) 10:18, 25 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
