How about merging this article with General number field sieve to form a single article simply entitled Number field sieve? Gremagor (talk) 05:05, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
- There's rational sieve, special number field sieve, and general number field sieve, each a bit more complicated than the previous one. I don't think any of them should be merged, none are too short or too simple, and they don't overlap that much. We shouldn't merge just for the sake of merging.... Also, we would have to be extra-careful in a merged article that a reader could understand the simple parts without having to understand the more complicated bits. That said, I'm sure it's possible to merge them successfully, and I'm not totally opposed to it. :-) --Steve (talk)
- The rational sieve is a completely different algorithm, as is the quadratic sieve, and I wouldn't support merging either of those with the number field sieve. However, the special number field sieve is just a special case of the general number field sieve (they are based entirely on the same theory), so I strongly believe that they belong in the same article. I notice that the number to factorize goes from "n" for the first half of the article to "N" for the second half. 69.91.144.238 (talk) 15:52, 30 July 2014 (UTC)
