editThe term 'special visceral efferent' is now increasingly regarded as a misnomer because the 'branchiomotor' components of the pharyngeal arches are now known to be derived from paraxial mesoderm just like the somite derived muscular elements. So these skeletal muscles are neither 'special' or 'visceral'so the nerves suppling in them are really just 'efferent' The use of the SVE term is really now to link to older texts.Doctorpete (talk) 12:05, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
