- ... that F. W. de Klerk's speech announcing the end of apartheid in South Africa and the release of Nelson Mandela (both pictured) was given 31 years ago today? Source: Independent

5x expanded by The C of E (talk). Self-nominated at 10:27, 22 January 2021 (UTC).
- Hi, The C of E: Article is at 5x expansion, well written & referenced, no indication of copyvio. Seems to be neutral, though I'm not incredibly familiar with the context. QPQ has been done. I ce'd the article--notably removing bolding of the title and italicization of apartheid because I didn't feel that either fit. Image is good Some questions. What does
it would have the biggest impact
mean? The biggest impact of what?only told his wife in the car
whose wife? Mandela's or de Klerk? More importantly, if it was 1990, that wasn't 21 years ago... Eddie891 Talk Work 18:30, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Eddie891: I have amended it, the 21 was a mistype. As for the car quote, its clear that in context it refers to de Klerk's wife (why would Mandela's wife be in de Klerk's Presidential car after all?!) The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 18:37, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- On a second reading, I think its clear. Sorry, Eddie891 Talk Work 18:41, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- OK, can you tick it then please @Eddie891:? The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 18:45, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- Didn't get your ping, but yes, this is good to go now. I didn't realize you had addressed my third point. It's helpful to tell people when you do. Eddie891 Talk Work 18:47, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- The C of E, just curious why you removed the link to F.W. de Klerk’s article? I think it relevant here. Eddie891 Talk Work 19:14, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- Avoiding WP:OLINK. I never usually link any other article in any of my hooks because it could take views away from the article. If people want to know who he is, they can click through the bold hook and find out. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 19:16, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- de Klerk is not sufficiently well-known that OLINK applies, as I'm sure you know, and DYK is not solely about getting as many views as is feasibly possible-- or at least it shouldn't be. The hook should be as convenient as is possible for the reader, which means linking a person so they can click on it if they want to know who he is. I'm not going to make a mountain out of a molehill, but I seriously suggest you or whoever comes by to promote this hook consider adding the link. It does a disservice to the reader to force them to go an extra step to reach an article in the pursuit of pageviews. The fact that you can't bring yourself to link a relevant article because you fear it would detract from pageviews astounds me, and, quite frankly, I'm disappointed. But I don't intend to argue the point further. Best, Eddie891 Talk Work 21:16, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
