Sandy and Spongebob are NOT in love!

If you seen most other TV shows or young chilren's cartoons such as this you'll notice that if one character like anotrher they'll usually blush whenever any kind of hint is brought up between their relationship, but Sandy and Spongebob show no affections towards eachother at all. Spongebob shows more affection towards PatrickFat by hugging him and saying he loves him so much and hardly says anything even close to that to Sandy. The only thing they are in friends and that's the only thing they will be. I can't believe Wikipedia has this complete lie here, I wouldn't doubt it if a 4 year-old wrote that into the article. Now I thought Wikipedia was about the truth, not just what some Spongebob lovers Think and I bodled the word think as in they think it, but it IS NOT TRUE. Not to mention the fact that this show is for little kids or "young viewers" as they call it here, which it isn't mentioned and occording to the lies in this article adults and teenagers supposidly like it, which I definatley know is a LIE.

Bobbyboy248 20:09, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

You are extremely wrong, you haven't played the SpongeBob SquarePants: Employee of the Month PC game. In that PC game, click on Sandy's Picture and SpongeBob will say "Ahh Sandy Cheeks ... looking at her makes me smile", enter Sandy's house and SpongeBob will say "I love visiting Sandy in her treedome", In the "Bottoms Up" movie, Sandy lifts up SpongeBob and they both smile looking at each other. Not only that, have you watched the Flowers for Sandy and Ripped Pants episode, or have you watched other episodes correctly? That means it isn't a lie. -Porchcrop (talk) 06:01, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

No, I am right, they just look at eachother as friends. I haven't seen any episodes in a while since they all make me sick to my stomache, but for example in the Valentine's episode he only gave sandy a card and a cacolate bubble which he gave most people, but he gave PatrickFat a big chacolate balloon, now if he was suppsidly in love with Sandy then he would've given her the chacolate balloon or soemthing more than what he gave most people. Also they don't show any relation affection besides the ones that regular freinds or just best friends do, and what are you talking about watching it the correct way because I'm not going to do soemthng besindes watch and gag while I watch it, there's no other way you could watch it unless you take drugs and see it in a whole different way and I am not that kind of person you know. Bobbyboy248 (talk) 20:09, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
I'm not a SpongeBob fan myself, but assuming that anyone that likes it is on drugs can offend some people, and we don't want personal attacks. TheBlazikenMaster (talk) 20:17, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
Please keep in mind that Wikipedia is not for making assumptions, drawing conclusions, or reading into actions. It is for writing about verifiable items that must be sourced with reliable, third-party sources. To speculate or theorize is original research, and not allowed. If the article currently theorizes, or offers an opinion by any editor, those opinions should be removed if they cannot be attributed to a source that can verify it. Verifiability is a core policy here, and should be observed in all articles. ArielGold 06:43, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Actually, Bobby and Porchcrop are both wrong. It is not known whether or not SpongeBob and Sandy are "in love" There may have been some affection shown, but no actual words revealing "love." It is true that they are friends, but anything further than that is unknown. Otherwise, it is assumptions. Just like the whole gay controversy issue was assumed; Hillenburg did say that SpongeBob and Patrick are not gay. So, unless it is actually said the SpongeBob and Sandy are in love or Hillenburg or another crew member reveals this ,it is WP:OR, like ArielGold said. And accordign to statistics, adults and teenagers also watch SpongeBob. Look em up. -AMK152(TalkContributionsSend message) 18:44, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

  • I totally agree with you AMK. I watch SS, my dad, sisters, mom. I am a Spongebob fan and also Bobby I am sort of offended by what you said. Like Blaziken said, we don't want personal attacks. Bubblesmiles (talk) 15:29, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

SpongeBob Wikis

I would like to say that our wiki, SpongyWiki, is the first successful wiki out there and we're not on the list?!?! How is that fair?!?!

A source that could be used: Jerry Beck's Not Just Cartoons: Nicktoons!

I found a book in the bookstore called Not Just Cartoons: Nicktoons! by Jerry Beck. I'm not going to buy it and join the project, but I will ask the other members to get the book so that they can add real world information about various fictional characters. This makes the creation of separate articles for *many* fictional characters feasible. Having information about the development of the character will make the articles satisfy Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) WhisperToMe (talk) 20:36, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

I saw that book. I noticed a storyboard for "Help Wanted" and a few character bios. Strange thing is, it said SpongeBob first aired in April 1999, not May 1999. Perhaps this is a mistake? -AMK152(TalkContributionsSend message) 05:24, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
It possibly could be a mistake - Buy the book and scan the pages so we can see the context. WhisperToMe (talk) 11:22, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Question

How come some episodes were already made awhile ago, but they were never shown? Sampo Sheep (talk) 20:04, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps Nickelodeon is waiting for a right time to release them. -AMK152(TalkContributionsSend message) 05:24, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Spongebobs Effects on the Real World

Spongebob is a problem to youth in my opinion. I feel that it has very little if any educational value. Seeing as its popularity on Nickelodeon(a very popular station itself) is very high I find it to be a danger to the mind of young children. The behavior of spongebob is foolish and pushes that kind of behavior and children. I have personally seen some children actually running around yelling "Im ready, Im ready, Im ready," over and over again in a way that is ridiculous. I feel this foolish behavior is a terrible thing to see in children and I findn it even worse that its coming from a TV show that is so popular because of that. Now I am not saying that TV shows cant be fun, or silly, I even like shows like that... to a certain extent that is. When a TV show is at the point that it has zero educational value, and suggests foolish acts to young minds. I find that is where it has gone too far. Some people may like Spongebob and they can if they want to, but in my opinion I find Spongebob to be the worst show on Television. --Kenkune55 (talk) 19:58, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Someone rewrote the first sentence to "Spongebob Squarepants is a big yellow freak". If someone knows what it was before, that should be fixed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.242.45.43 (talk) 15:27, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Comeback?

I'm terribly sorry, but I'm being dead serious. Could we put a title such as "Comeback and Decline". I mean we all know it. It just isn't the same anymore. I, personally, feel that in the beginning the creators knew how to draw well, they just chose a style that was well-liked, but lately (in their "comeback") it's just...different. It's colored differently, it's not that funny anymore, it's oddly predictable, the detail is disappointingly overwhelming, the voices are strange, and its focus went from regular humor to more of a crude humor (unfortunately, because I feel ashamed when I watch something with crude humor). Just a suggestion. 24.3.239.76 (talk) 00:09, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

That's what we call an opinion. 71.10.88.69 (talk) 18:27, 16 April 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.10.88.69 (talk) 23:21, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

71.10.88.69 is right. You may think about it as one way while others don't. If the ratings dropped at a certain time and can be proven, then yes, that is a decline, but only due to the ratings unless additional details can be sourced. -AMK152(TalkContributionsSend message) 01:51, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
You have completely missed the point. We DO all know Spongebob SquarePants has gotten worse. That's putting it kindly.
You guys seem to just be denying it so you wouldn't be in violation of wikipedia's POV rules. Don't Be afraid, AMK152 to state your own opinion and don't incourage others to be afraid either.
What was stated may have been an opinion, but if you look around more and do your research you will find just how "inaccurate" 24.3.239.76 really is. The only thing I would ask them to change about their "single" opinion is that 24.3.239.76 said the new episodes ended predictably when in fact they try to take every IMpossible twist and turn to make themselves funny which usually ends up blowing up in the faces of both the story writers and the once joyful but now-hapless viewers.
That too was also an opinion. But don't let that stray you off topic. What matters is something absolutely MUST be said/typed. I kind of more straight-forward fried the new show's direction's ass as you see above, but in the actual summary get-down on the article of Spongebob SquarePants, someone could be more...abiding and not so POV-ish.
There ARE articles out there by famous credible TV critics addressing this shows new design negetively. Just look for them. You could even look on Amazon. The Season 5 boxset is what got the worst reviews so just pick something off of there. If there is anyone who disagrees with the wiki-politically correct article, the let them raise the matter. Otherwise, we should all best start considering the idea before this grows violent.ThegreatWakkorati (talk) 12:22, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

No such thing. Look at every cartoon that started around late 1990 early 2000's and still is releasing new episodes: The Simpsons, Fairly Oddparents, Family Guy, King of the Hill. Compare and contrast the pilot episodes of each show with newer episodes.. The lines will be much broader; the sound will be better quality; the animation FPS will be faster. DIGITAL televisions are getting higher quality all the time. Animators need to improve the quality of their shows.

One of the biggest changes I noticed personally was the addition of shadows on faces and bodies, also the addition of other attempts at creating more of a 3d-like environment. Is that what bothers you?

Look at the Futurama episodes from 1999 - 2002 compared to the Futurama Movie, Bender's Big Score. Does that bother you? I hope it does. Because it doesn't bother anyone else. Better animation does not mean "Worse animation because bring the oringal lower-quality version back". Better animation means, "better animation wow they've really improved the rendering"

71.10.88.69 (talk) 04:56, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Once again, 71.10.88.69, managed to somehow completely miss the point and almost completely ignored what someone typed.
I never commented on the quality of animation. As a matter of fact, until you brought it up, it wasn't even part of this discussion...
We're not complete relics. We can take a few big graphical design changes.
What everyone's saying is who give a shit what the design looks like? The design aren't anything without a proper decent story. But right now the: Scenario's, the dialogue's, and the elements so far are just plain awful and unsensible it makes longtime fans of the series look away in disgust. That's all that matters.
Like it's been stated before: The diologue always falls flat, the storyboards and plots make no sense, voices are too much hyped than before, but worst of all, the charecters personalities are magnified. (e.g. Spongbob just got louder and more annoying, Patric just got dumber, etc. to the point of just plain insanity!) I hope you noticed that...ThegreatWakkorati (talk) 03:50, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
I get your point. A true fan of a show wouldn't be bothered by major changes of the show, since it happens all the time. I'm no fan of SpongeBob, I just want to make clear to anyone else what you are trying to point out. TheBlazikenMaster (talk) 16:15, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

I heartily agree with the fact that the first three seasons of spongebob were awesome, and now if I see a newer one on, I refuse to watch it. The article should in some way point out that the show drastically changed after its hiatus.

Well, we can include it. IF you are able to find a reliable source. TheBlazikenMaster (talk) 11:00, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
I am not a fan of SpongeBob myself, the only reason why I'm watching this page is because I used to be one when I started watching it. But I strongly recommend everyone that wants to help to read this: WP:Reliable source, I don't read it myself, because I have work to do on YouTube. But if you want it included, you guys should get a reliable source and find the right section, I wish you all good luck. TheBlazikenMaster (talk) 11:08, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

misc. questions/praise

I was wondering if anyone knew if the band Ween has done more music for the show, particularly some of the instrumental guitars playing while spongebob and patrick are doing their usual scatterbrained activities. On the other hand, I'm not sure if this is the place for something like this, but I just wanted to say that this is a very well written article, especially the 'broad appeal' section. Great job whomever is responsible.

Vandalism

Well, right now the article's been slightly vandalized. Spongebob's not a pothead (at least to my knowledge) and I'm pretty sure that SpongeBetty SquarePajamas doesn't exist. Can someone please fix this? I can't. WHY would you want to write stupid things like that?68.116.148.117 (talk) 04:23, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

It's not exactly vandalism. There is a full-time animated mini-series on YouTube heavily parodying SpongeBob SquarePants. It's called Spongebob "Bung"Pant, or something like that.

Anywho, in that mini-series, the charecters are all drug exploitized versions of themselves.

Go check it out and maybe rethink about that statement, 68.116.148.117. ThegreatWakkorati (talk) 22:41, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Controversy?

A few years ago, parents were complaining that Spongebob had gay references and that it should be their job to teach their kids about homosexuality and not the job of television. And they kept reffering to Spongebob as the prime example. Wanna argue? Read this: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/20/politics/20sponge.html?_r=2&oref=login&oref=slogin&oref=slogin --Particleman24 (talk) 00:54, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Spongebob is actually good and enjoyable cartoon for children it is so interesting because there are a lot of different characters with different personalities but also coming to nicktoons the spongebob movie is coming out on nicktoons so keep watching nicktoons it is the best program for kids —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.18.212.150 (talk) 16:21, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
I personally think that, if there is any determined sexuality to the characters, they're like asexual. They simply were never written with the actual intent of sexual plotlines. -- Zanimum (talk) 15:35, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
So... Are we going to add a section called "Controversy", or not? --Particleman24 (talk) 19:44, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

On that subject, does anybody know why the episode "Procrastination" was edited? I have it on tape and at one point, when spongebob can't write his essay, he jumps out of his chair and says "I know. I just need to get a little blood pumping in the old noodle(Brain). How about some calisthenics?"Then he does some exercises, says "I can feel those juices pumping now!", and gets back into his chair. But if you watch the episode on TV now, spongebob is sitting in his chair, says "Gee, this is harder than I thought." and then it shows him standing on the ground saying "I can feel those juices pumping now!" and then he gets back into his chair. Did somebody find the exercises inappropriate or something? --Rubixmike14 —Preceding comment was added at 02:52, 10 May 2008 (UTC)

I read somewhere that CITV censored Spongebob for no reason. Are you from the UK? --Particleman24 (talk) 19:45, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

No, Nickelodeon also took it out, although it is still on the DVD. And also, about Just One Bite, I know that the security scene was taken out due to two things... 9/11 and also it shows children how to create large fires, but sometimes they still show it. Does anyone know why? If you watch closely, you can also tell if it is the edited one or not by if The Bully comes first or not. If it does, the scene is intact. I've been trying to watch it for that [scene], and I've noticed that sometimes it shows it and sometimes it dubs it out. Could anyone help me prove this and come up with an answer why? EuroJordan (talk) 15:58, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Question about plot

Is there an episode of SbSp where Patrick either looses a rock, or is looking for a new one or something? I know he lives under a rock, but apparently there's an episode where he's looking for a rock. (This is surprisingly a serious, work-related question; I can't explain any more than that though.) Much appreciated! -- Zanimum (talk) 15:21, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

I could research it if you wanted a definite answer, but I do know off the top of my head there is an episode where Patrick has a pet rock entered in a snail race against SB and Squidward, and ends up winning. Maybe not what you're looking for, but I would check out the list of episodes links. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.81.124.118 (talk) 02:10, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Wow, thank you, that sounds like it might be it! -- Zanimum (talk) 17:52, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

There is also an issue of a sponge bob magazine with a comic when Patrick is looking for a rock because sponge bob smashed his old one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.199.78.33 (talk) 14:01, 13 June 2008 (UTC)

Not a soap opera

Can someone change the opening sentence where is says "SpongeBob SquarePants is an Emmy-nominated American animated Soap opera and media franchise." It's a comedic animated show, soap opera is really a stretch!! 74.37.248.173 (talk) 23:58, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

That was a temporary piece of vandalism, which was quickly reverted, after you saw it. -- Zanimum (talk) 00:59, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Baby Scallop

In this article, it is said that Spongebob and Patrick nurture a baby clam. However, it was, in actuality, a baby scallop. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.122.233.251 (talk) 18:52, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

That section used to be there, but it was moved to it's own article. Then, the article was deleted and the content was moved outside of Wikipedia here. -AMK152(TalkContributionsSend message) 13:16, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

New Writers Re-route Show

Anyone think the article should address the new characteristics of the show as of late? Since the show hired new writers, the show has gone downhill. Spongebob's voice (by Tom Kenny) has gone up even higher. In almost every one of the new episodes, one or more characters go crazy at some point. Also, for some reason the animators draw Spongebob's nose as limp more than often, so that it flucuates between limp and normal. Is that a new function of Spongebob's nose? Also, the humor has become very childish. Whereas, before, the humor was laid out as the plot progessed, the new episodes just feature non-sensical humor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.107.28.6 (talk) 01:53, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

I agree, and I am a kid, and I have been disapointed in the new episodes but the humor part is just an opinion. If you find any ratings anywhere that prove your point, then I think we should add it to this article. EuroJordan (talk) 01:28, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Of course, we would need reliable sources. -AMK152(TalkContributionsSend message) 13:18, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

Comeback?: Evidence

Alright, well I'm the same person who, before, suggested that the show is indeed declining in quality and that there should be a note of this. Now, I did some research at tv.com (for those who don't know, its a website where registered members can vote and average a score for an episode, as well as other information). Now, I've composed this data and I will post it for you to view. This is a compilation of episode scores based on the publics vote (from tv.com) they are in order of lowest score to highest score and organized by season. It is set-up so that it is like:

Interesting. But I bet there would be only certain types of people rating those episodes. I don't think everyone who ever watched the show rates episodes there. Some who rated may never even watched the episodes. In other words, it is not 100% reliable (see WP:Reliable). Plus, I think this would be considered original research. -AMK152(TalkContributionsSend message) 13:22, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
