".EU"

Hi everyone I felt the need to add the .eu in the list —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.251.78.214 (talk) 12:45, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Well, what is .EU used for? TenSecondsFlat 20:36, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

I think .eu is used for major european websites not just known in one country. Although, I'm notsure .eu belongs here, since most other websites do not use .eu AppleJack-7 07:17, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Eurid, the .eu registry, did a survey of about 5000 .eu websites to determine their usage patterns and published their results on Eurid .eu Web survey 2011 However HosterStats.com surveyed approximately 2 million .eu websites and posted its results on HosterStats.com .eu Web Survey October 2011 There is also a Wikipedia article on .eu. Well then, I'm not in the loop about my domains then...-- AppleJack 7 01:35, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

"False Friends"

Perhaps it's worth a mention here - or to have a compplete subsection on - sponsored use and even "abuse" of some country TLDs: i'm envisaging in particular here stuff like .tv (Tuvalu but used for TV stations) or .fm (micronesia but used for radio stations), even .su (soviet union but marketed for nostalgia value); and "abuse" in the form of .la - which is intended for Laos but has clearly been "hijacked" by the registrar and marketed as a TLD for Los Angeles! What d'yall think? 62.176.111.68 (talk) 12:53, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

There is a section "Abuse" in the Domain Name article. Most people will probably search for "domain name" rather than "sponsored top-level domain". You might want to add a paragraph there. But I guess it doesn't hurt here either. Kbrose (talk) 13:02, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
wow...fast reply - thanx! i might well do that, especially as the "TLD" articles are proposed to be merged. found another article also: domain hack - which deals with the issue but from a different slant. might add the paragraph on abuse there...? 62.176.111.68 (talk) 13:08, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
