How come I was checking last night's final score of the Springfield Cardinals and "EASY AS THAT SHOULD BE" I still have no answer — Preceding unsigned comment added by Micheal033time (talk • contribs) 13:48, 1 June 2019 (UTC)
Merge
editI proposed deletion for this article, when I meant to propose a merge and redirect. This team barely existed, it is doubtful it has any lingering following, and I move that this article (and the separate articles for each location where this franchise played) should be merged into the article for the current location of the franchise, the Great Lakes Loons. --Muboshgu (talk) 02:35, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- I oppose a merge. Repeating some of the points I made in the AFD discussion: (a) It is not standard practice to consolidate articles on a minor league franchise that played in several cities into a single article. (b) There isn't a strong reason to do so, since there is generally very little continuity across locations--different owners, different players and managers, and quite often different affiliations. (c) A reason to keep separate articles for each city is that interest in minor league teams is generally associated with local history. I think it's more likely that an editor interested in Springfield, Illinois history will expand this article than if its merged into the Great Lakes Loons, who play in a different state several hundred miles away. Also, your claim that the team barely existed is exaggerated--according to the article they played in Springfield for 12 seasons. BRMo (talk) 03:59, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
- It doesn't seem so likely has it hasn't been done to this point. I should've designated only one place for discussion, I had already responded at Talk:Michigan_Battle_Cats#Merge so there it is. --Muboshgu (talk) 20:41, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
I also oppose merger. I used to work at the Illinois EPA office in the old Sangamo electric meter factory a few blocks away and would often walk over after work to attend the games. It was an important part of my three years there. I would also like to thank the person who took the time to create this article. When I first came to look for some information on "the Baby Birds", there was no entry at all. I added a couple of lines to the Missouri verson of the Springfield Cardinals at that time (I think the "affectionately known as the 'Baby Birds'" may have been brought over from that entry). In fact, I initially was annoyed at its removal until I saw the link to this entry. I agree strongly with the assertion that the interest in information about minor league teams is based on local history. RegardsDubhloaich (talk) 05:21, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
Wow, this has been expanded into a nice article covering the history of baseball in Springfield, Illinois as well as the MWL Cardinals. Thanks to the person who enhanced this article. (an unlogged in Dubhloaich). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.81.141.70 (talk) 01:10, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
