"White shoe"
editI've deleted the "white shoe" reference in the article (and have proposed deleting the "white shoe law firms" category). "White shoe" is a subjective label that suggests elitism and conservativism. Most people would not apply it to a "bulge bracket" firm like SPB or any of the other big Swiss Verein firms, but more to the old and super-prestigious firms in New York that have strong ties to Wall Street. Some discussions about the phrase below for reference:
- http://www.nytimes.com/1997/11/09/magazine/on-language-gimme-the-ol-white-shoe.html
In addition, there's a historical racist connotation to the label. See, e.g., http://www.weeklystandard.com/remembering-the-white-shoe-firm/article/2000803
Vandalized?
editHi,
I'm just a guest, but this article appears to have been vandalized by someone with strong opposition to the subject matter. I figured I should bring it to the attention of the Wikipedia powers-that-be.
