Note: I've abridged this considerably in the course of translating it, and I've summarised a fair bit of material that the French wikipedia presents in detail. I can't find any corroboration anywhere that this church was ever used as a cathedral, ie, as the seat of a bishop - there is certainly no trace that there was ever a bishop of Sélestat/Schlettstadt.
