History
edit1970 -1972 I was stationed in Izmir, Turkey as part of the NATO detachment and was privileged to worship in this beautiful cathedral. In my files, I found this history, written by John J. Flattery, whose efforts should be re-recorded here.
In May 2001, I revisited Izmir and was disappointed to find that the Turkish Army had fenced off the Cathedral and were not allowing access to it. The Turkish Lieutenant was not able to explain why this was.
