St vs. Saint

edit

If the name of the city is St. Louis, why is the name of the orchestra "Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra", and not "St. Louis Symphony Orchestra". Unless it's named directly after St Louis IX of France or some other saint named Louis, rather than after the city. -- JackofOz (talk) 03:40, 25 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I see they changed their name in 2010 from "Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra" to "St. Louis Symphony". I'd like to think my question above had something to do with this embracing of consistency. I will go to my grave believing this.  :) -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 19:16, 13 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
Their website is now headed "SLSO" and under "Contact Us", it uses "St. Louis Symphony Orchestra". User:RossweisseSTL made some related changes today. Should the article be moved to St. Louis Symphony Orchestra? IMO, it's hardly worth the trouble. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 03:51, 14 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
