McCain Dates of Attendance

Additionally, John McCain, senator and Republican presidential candidate in 2000 and 2008, attended St. Stephen's from 1946 to 1949 before ultimately graduating from Episcopal High School in 1954. This is confirmed by the school archivist (2016).

Category - when educational instituions were established

Well one school was established in 1924, the other in the late 1940s. They were merged in the 1990s Ecragg (talk) 23:44, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

Quality and formatting cleanup

The article reads too much like a promotion or advertisement for the school. It doesn't follow the same format as similar articles for other preparatory schools. The obsolete enrollment numbers (this is covered by the info box), environmental initiatives, administration, and honor code are irrelevant to a wikipedia audience. Most articles for college preparatory schools follow a format of: introduction, history, small section about athletics, followed by notable alumni, I've flagged for cleanup. The first thing I do on a cleanup is to check copyvios. That can save a lot of time- here it revealed how much material is available on line- both secondary sources that should be considered RS and school and alumni produced magazines that could be secondary or primary. I did not find a copyvio but gut instinct tells me there must be some. The tone is not encyclopedic- that is a rewrite job and some heavy more specific referencing. I disagree about the sections, they are just what we need from a UK perspective- and to get an article to GA. The sections on the environmental initiative is very important in differentiating this small comprehensive from its neighbours but it needs to be wikified with links. Name

Why is Stephen's possessive but Agnes not? Perhaps Agnes is nominally possessive, but has its apostrophe precluded by spelling convention? Or, more likely I'm guessing, it has just been inherited from "St Agnes" which never had a possessive form. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 11:48, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

Interesting question. We could have expected it to be written "Agnes's" because there was only one of her as opposed to "All saints(') school". Some schools use the apostrophe e.g. All Saints' school in Halifax and some don't e.g. All Saints school in Dagenham (note the mandatory use of the cross to replace the "t" in the name of both schools). Lol. Not quite what I meant. I guess many churches, or all hues and types, use a "logo device" like this, as part of their "corporate branding". Might be a whole history of such use. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:34, 13 November 2018 (UTC)

I think it must just be chance as one is a Catholic shool and the other C of E. It's the same here in Paris where loads of logos that have an A in it have some kind of stylised Eiffel tower instead [1] and sometimes other characters get Eiffeled like the Paris 2024 logo [2] ...too tempting I suppose. Unfortunately for your logic, both of the original schools were Protestant Episcopal (C of E) and were under the auspices of Church Schools of Virginia which is part of Episcopal Diocese of Virginia ('63 SSS alumni) Ecragg (talk) 23:42, 13 November 2018 (UTC)
