editOn city plan I should write: St Aldate's or St Aldate's Street or...?

Apostrophe, and etymology
editAccording to all the books on Oxford that I've read, there's no such saint as "Aldate" -- the name comes from "Old Gates" -- and there's therefore no apostrophe. Interestingly, even the church of St Aldates doesn't use the apostrophe. --87.113.53.153 (talk) 07:39, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
