Talk:St John Singapore

Latest comment: 1 year ago by Delirious prince in topic Updates in 2023

Hi, first post here, I put this page together after realising there isn't one for our esteemed organisation. Feel free to edit if necessary!

As I'm more familiar with Brigade, it will be great if someone from Association can do a short write up on that as well and correct any mistakes i have made.

P.S. Vandalism will not be tolerated.

Moribund Ranks

edit

The ranks of Zone Commissioner (Super Grade 4), Zone Staff Officer (Grade 2) and Corps Superintendent (Grade 4) is no longer practiced since 2005. Which means there will not be anyone else promoted to this rank currently, but those who already hold this rank may continue to do so.

In addition, Zone Superintendent (Ambulance) and Zone Superintendent (Nursing) have been streamlined into Zone Superintendent (Administration) and Zone Superintendent (Operations).

My guess is that these ranks were left over from the time when District, Areas, Corps and Divisions were amalgated into Zones and Corps. Anyway I don't remember that any Zone Commissioner (Super Grade 4) had ever been appointed. There was, however, a period of time when a few Chief Staff Officers held concurrent appointments as Zone Commissioners.

Standard format for First Aid Competition winners

edit

I feel that a breakdown of past winners of Inter-CORPS First Aid competitions belong to a separate page and there should be a standard format i.e. Year, Category, Winner such as:

Year Category Champion
2002 Ambulance Adult ABC Secondary School
Ambulance Cadet XYZ Secondary School
2003 Nursing Adult ABC Secondary School
Nursing Cadet XYZ Secondary School

Anyway I support the use of the word 'Champions' due to the existence of 3 placings for the Competition. --Delirious prince 07:14, 22 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:SJAB Logo.JPG

edit

Image:SJAB Logo.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Zone Commissioner's Names Added

edit

Zone Commissioner's Names have been added. I could add Zone Superintendent's names as well but I don't have the updated list (the HQ weblink is not working). Anyway I'm not sure if the post nominal titles are accurate, please edit if they're not. Delirious prince 12:59, 25 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Naming Proposal

edit

So I've been considering a way to organize the Wikipedia pages that deal with the Order of St John and St John Ambulance. Since the St John Ambulance is officially an organ of the Order of St John, it makes sense to me to change the name of all the national ambulance pages to something like [[Order of St John in (COUNTRY)]]. What are your thoughts on that for this page? I'm posting similar requests for feedback on the other national ambulance pages. You can see my idea of how the navigation would look at my sandbox the newly created Order of St John in the United States page. I'd love to read any thoughts on this.--dave-- 01:11, 19 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Well...it's been a month and a half an no objections have been raised here or elsewhere. I will, thus, move forward with some changes. Thanks!--dave-- 16:21, 5 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

Updates in 2020

edit

I'm back to this page I had created 13 years ago after a hiatus..

The following changes have been made: 1. With effect from 1 Jan 2020, St John Brigade, Singapore had been transformed from ten Zones to five Districts. There was, hence a need to change all references for "Zone" to "District". 2. The rank insignia for the Supergrade 5 grade had been changed with effect from same date, and hence updated. 3. The titles for Member of the Order have been aligned to international practice, notably "SBStJ" and "SSStJ" had been renamed to "MStJ".

Updates in 2023

edit

The following changes have been made.

1. The dress regulations for the Brigade had been updated to allow officers the option of wearing berets in addition to peak caps/bowler hats. The relevant section has been updated as such. 2. To further streamline the rank structure in St John Brigade, the rank structure had been streamlined into three groups: Commissioners (C1 to C4), Superintendents (S1 to S3) and Officers (O4 to O6). In addition, the Supergrade 5 grade was removed. Delirious prince (talk) 15:20, 13 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
