Name confusion
editThere's already a page for this church - see Reading Minster :) Annihilatenow (talk) 17:53, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- Oops, correction, just read the article I linked to. Perhaps they're different ;) Annihilatenow (talk) 17:54, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
- They are indeed different. Hopefully the two articles now make this clear. -- Chris j wood (talk) 16:13, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Denomination
editI'm having a crisis of confidence as to whether this is actually a Church of England church. As a Reading resident I've always assumed it was. I can find sources that say it is protestant and episcopalian, and the implication of the WP articles on those subjects is that the only church in England with that combination is the Church of England. But the CoE's find a church web site (http://www.acny.org.uk/) does not show this one up. I've amended the article and some links so as not to jump to unsourced conclusions. Can anybody explain?. -- Chris j wood (talk) 16:18, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- It has never been a Church of England church. It was a private Calvinist chapel associated with the Countess of Huntingdon's Connexion until the 1830s, when it became associated with the Church of England, but as a Proprietary chapel, not a parish church. It left the Church of England in 1994 when its priest (David Samuel) left the Church of England and set up his own denomination named the Church of England (Continuing).
