Old questions
editDoes anyone know of the relative effectiveness of stabilizers? This would be an article I would love to see expanded if anyone knows more about it than I. Thanks! 16:06, 12 December 2007 (UTC)Lazulilasher
Not too sure about "The bilge keel was an early 20th century predecessor although not as effective" Bilge keels have been around a long time and they operate as passive roll dampers, operating at all speeds. They are pretty effective at zero and low speeds whereas active fin stabilisers come into their own at speed. Subsea (talk) 18:29, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I sailed on RMS Sylvania in 1957; her stabilizers (regarded as innovative on a liner at the time) imparted a curious, rather sick-making twist to her roll, so not very effective from a passenger's point of view. But of course that's OR! If I can fnd a good source I'll add something. --D Anthony Patriarche (talk) 14:57, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
¿What’s a “Gyrostabilizer”?
editSince that article redirects here, and since that’s linked to at least the M-1 Sherman tank article, I’d kinda like to know. Without having to weed through the jungle.Trying To Make Wikipedia At Least Better Than The ''Weekly World News.'' (talk) 20:02, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- Looks like an incorrect wlink to me, I think it should direct to Gyroscope, and not to Stabilizer (ship). Exit2DOS • Ctrl • Alt • Del 07:02, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

History gap
editThe history jumps from 1934 to 2010. Room for lots more material there! I sailed on RMS Sylvania in 1957 & her stabilizers were regarded as an innovation. Not my area of expertise--anyone have info? --D Anthony Patriarche (talk) 14:42, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
- Filled part of the gap by the history of stabilizers in the British and US navies. Викидим (talk) 09:06, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
Orphaned references in Stabilizer (ship)
editI check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Stabilizer (ship)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT⚡ 10:24, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
