Naming contradictions

edit

This article uses both 'Crvena Zvezda' and 'Red Star' to refer to the occupying club. Wouldn't it be beter to simply reach a consensus on which name should be used (the oter name could be put in brackets after the first usage for clarity purposes). Also, the photo is titled 'Marakana' which, as the article clearly states, is simply the nickname of the ground, not its official name.Ygoloxelfer 13:20, 15 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Stadion FK Crvena ZvezdaRed Star Stadium

  • The name is Red Star stadium not Stadion FK Crvena Zvezda. Crvena Zvezda will always translated(in every language). The clubs name in English is also Red Star Belgrade. Marakana is only the nickname among he fans. The real Marakana stadium is in Brasil. The name of this stadium on this side here must be Red Star stadium. Thanks. • Comment The name is not always translated as Red Star. There was a long debate on the online version of The Guardian a couple of months ago, where that newspaper's use of Crvena Zvezda was challenged by a number of readers: and a larger number of readers replied stating that Crvena Zvezda was now the more common use in British football circles, particularly since the introduction of the Champions League. This is not as clearcut as the proposer suggests. However, the Serbian is given in the article simply as Stadion Crvena Zvezda (not Stadion FK Crvena Zvezda). In any case, whatever decision we take should be consistent with the article for the club, which is at Red Star Belgrade at present. Skinsmoke (talk) 17:29, 15 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

In any language when it comes to the club, the name of Crvena Zvezda (Red Star) over translate, because it is pronounced as heavy. Ex: Red Star, Red Star (German), Estrella Roja (Spanish), Stella Rossa (Italian), Kizılyıldiz (Turky) ect. The Serbs themselvs say "Stadion Crvene Zvezde. Grammatically correcly translated it is RED STAR STADIUM. He will be translate ever. Just because a foreign newspaper which says otherwise must not be right. The history says something else ... Red Star Stadium. And all people who speak both languages say the same(thats a lot of them). The klubs name will also translated, why not the same stadium name???Red Star Belgrade, Red Star Stadium, Red Star shop ect. Where is the problem?Best wishes.--Nado158 (talk) 17:37, 16 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
