Discovery of Shipwreck and loaction
editThe remains of Stag Hound have been discovered off the coast of the state of Pernambuco, South of the city of Recife. More specifically, 15km east of the neighborhood of Serrambi, part of the city of Ipojuca. Approximate coordinates are 8°35'42.0"S 34°54'53.0"W.
Recreational scuba divers found the wreck serendipitously in the early 2000's while searching for equipment that went overboard while on their way the artificial reef Tugboat Mars, approximately 350 meters distant from Stag Hound. The wreck is 30 meters deep. She was first assumed by the local dive community to be a Spanish or Portuguese Galeão from the 18th century, but subsequent research by Carlos Celestino Rios e Souza for his PhD dissertation identified the wreck as the Stag Hound with certainty.
