Fiction
editIssue #4 republished Fredric Brown's short "Arena" with illustration by Boris Vallejo, contradicting the assertion that the magazine had "no fiction" Voideater (talk) 03:14, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
- Publishing one short story in the Magazine's entire history amounts to, in my estimation, an exception, not a rule. Starlog is not realistically characterizable as a publisher of fiction. It is predominantly about movies, movie actors, and behind-the-scenes coverage of Special Visual Effects. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.145.220.11 (talk) 18:39, 26 September 2019 (UTC)
Final?
editI'm not sure #348 is the final issue since I read a listing for #350. - R.G. 03:08, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
Starlog is definitely still published; I don't know where that rumor started. As I write this, issue #350 is on the newsstands, #351 is advertised on the Starlog Web site, and #352 is announced in Previews magazine. --JZ 17 September 2006
- Although I haven't personally bought an issue since the magazine crested the $10 Cdn. cover price threshold (that was about 5-6 years ago) the magazine is definitely still being published as far as I've heard. It's a mainstay of the SF fandom community; if it ever gets cancelled, that'll be big news. 23skidoo 01:07, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
- Starlog has nothing to do with science fiction fandom. Some of us tolerate it, some consider it an embarassment. --Orange Mike 15:54, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- Does Orange Mike customarily speak for science fiction fandom? At that cover price, it's hard to believe they stay solvent solely on non-fan money. Bustter (talk) 03:19, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Retail
edit10 years ago, there was a Starlog retail store at Underground Atlanta (it's no longer there, BTW). Were there other retail locations, and any kind of a source that could be cited? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.23.211.225 (talk) 14:16, August 27, 2007 (UTC)
There was also a Starlog retail store at Arrowhead Mall in Glendale, AZ when the mall opened. Not sure when the store closed, but it was at least 12 years ago. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.165.239.214 (talk) 03:12, 3 August 2014 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Starlog1.jpg
editImage:Starlog1.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
starlog.com is dead.
editI thought Starlog was going to continue on as a web only magazine. The link is dead. Does anyone know what's going on?173.58.64.64 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 23:17, 4 September 2010 (UTC).
- Is the magazine for sale? You would think that there would be a market for a magazine like this with all the trekies out there.108.23.147.17 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 00:23, 13 October 2011 (UTC).
- Starlog, as far as I'm aware, is no longer for sale. They seem to have gone out of publication in 2009. They do, however, have an archive available for free with all the different issues on the Internet Archive - https://archive.org/details/starlogmagazine is this something that I could add to the page? I've been thinking about adding a section as well about some of their returning writers. Thoughts? Lilypad96 (talk) 15:19, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
Edits 11/30
editYour edits look great overall! I think the main thing to address would be to add citations in the Bankruptcy and Editors sections. Also, since the Editors section is so short, I think it might work as a sub-heading under History better than as its own section. I don't think you wrote the Related Magazines section (though I could be wrong), but if you have the time it'd be cool to add citations there too! Your writing is very clear and professional throughout, and the information you've added is all relevant, informative, and neutral.

- Thanks! I added a couple of sources to the bankruptcy section, but when I looked to find a source to the editors section (which I only edited a tiny bit - highlighting that McDonnell was the FINAL editor of the magazine since it has since ended) I found that this section is taken from a fanlore wiki page about Starlog. Idk if I should delete the entire section since I couldn't find a source for it or just leave it, but I definitely like the idea of it as a subsection of "History", so I made that change. Thanks!
