Three (3) Comments RE: this 'Starwood Club' Wiki article
editFirst, there is a need for clarification. Both the title and the 1st paragraph refers to the Starwood Club, but then in the 2nd paragraph someone refers to the Starwood Nightclub as if Nightclub was part of the proper name. So, is it the Starwood Club or the Starwood Nightclub? For that matter, is the proper title even the Starwood Club or just the Starwood?
Second, a critique of the way the second paragraph has been written. The second paragraph talks about the Starwood previously being called PJ's, a fashionable jazz nightclub which attracted... old school jazz musicians. With that being said then shouldn't the very next sentence be written: "PJ's hosted such great jazz acts as The Bobby Fuller Four, The Standells, Rufus Thomas, and Trini Lopez who recorded live albums there." Which, of course, is ludicrous and yet the wording, at least in this context, would imply that very thing. Someone is not proof reading what has been written.
Third, adding a bit of interesting information. If you read the Wiki article on Don Costa, the prolific arranger & conductor for ABC-Paramount record label (Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme, Lloyd Price, & Paul Anka) came out west after leaving ABC and began working for United Artists. The article states: "In 1963, Don Costa discovered Trini Lopez working at "PJ's". Whoever is in charge of over-seeing the Wiki article titled 'Starwood Club' may want to include this little tid-bit. 184.76.56.97 (talk)JSJR 02142015 Happy Valentine's Day — Preceding undated comment added 08:19, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
hi this is Robert. I never paid once to get into the Startwood. Just dressed the part and was given free admission each and every time. It was a very kind place and I never was taken advantage of. Showed up almost every Friday and saterday from opening to closing hours. Had the time of my life and was able to see Aerosmith live there. I was very good looking!! Prided myself with grooming and styling cloths. thank you eddie nash and everyone involved. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 159.83.4.1 (talk) 20:44, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
Gary Fontenot (manager) is my step-uncle. He's many years older than me, and I only met him briefly, when I was pretty young. From what I remember, he referred to the Starwood and the "Starwood Nightclub." He was a "nightclub manager in Hollywood." It was all anyone talked about when he was home, because that was a rare occurrence (since his family was in Louisiana, and he didn't get home much). From the tales, the Starwood was an "anything goes" type of place (so it didn't surprise me to read about the underage girls). It was the '70's, after all. :) I apologize if my memory is incorrect. It has been many years.
Hello, Steve - SFValley. I agree with Robert, never paid to get in, best ambiance in Hollywood in the late '70s. I recall that Starwood was briefly a "roller-disco" club, though I cannot recall which years. Everyone I knew referred to it simply as "Starwood", not "The" Starwood or the Starwood- anything. Like referring to the name of a town. "Let's go to Starwood." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.112.144.187 (talk) 03:17, 15 September 2015 (UTC)
