Fundamental problems with this article
editI came here after an IP revised a wiki link at Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation to point to this article, and I have immediately noticed basic problems with the article, its title and its content and am contemplating how to fix it in the short term. For instance - the title is, "State-owned enterprises of the United States", but the second sentence of the article immediately contradicts this by stating that US GSEs are owned by private shareholders, and not by the government. After describing these shareholder-owned GSEs, which have commercial purposes, the article goes on to describe an entirely different set of US Government corporations, "Federal government chartered and owned corporations", which aren't owned by private shareholders at all and do not (by and large) serve commercial functions. It appears as though this page was lifted wholesale from List of government-owned companies, which had (evidently) grown by accretion to include these loosely related and poorly categorized entities all in one place.
The article desperately needs (1) a new title; (2) a coherent description of the general category of thing it intends to describe; and (3) a clear delineation within the article about what each of these different kinds of entities is or does or what the intentions are behind it. I'm not sure I'm up to the task - I'll have to learn it in order to do it - so if anyone else feels like taking a crack at it first, please do. There seems to be a lot of duplication in this area as well and maybe there's another article already out there that comes closer to the mark than this one. Meantime I'll try to find a suitable template or two and add it to the front of the article. JohnInDC (talk) 13:56, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
- Government sponsored enterprise already exists as a standalone article, so I simply removed that content from here. No GSE article links here so no one will miss that section. That resolves one substantial problem. JohnInDC (talk) 14:20, 6 February 2018 (UTC)
Source / Page Number Issues
editI'm looking at the following document:
- United States General Accounting Office (13 December 1995). "Government corporations: Profiles of Existing Government Corporations" (PDF). Washington, DC: Author. GAO/GGD-96-14.
The page numbers in the citations in this article do not match up. For example, the National Park Foundation appears to only be mentioned on page 22, not pages 18 and 168, as cited. What document was the original author of this article reading? Was there a similar GAO report or another edition of this report published? Daask (talk) 17:14, 7 December 2019 (UTC)
Should the list add US Institute of Peace?
editI'm not sure; it fits in some ways, not others. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.252.4.23 (talk) 20:29, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
