Pictures
editI would like to put pictures of the hank drum on this page but don't know how.Charlesjustice (talk) 11:01, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- You need pictures that the originator is willing to publish under a free licence. These pictures you must upload to the Wikipedia Commons and then you can refer to them easily in the Wikipedia article. I think the best is to ask Dennis Havlena whether he can contribute a picture under a free licence and then it's the easiest way if he upload the picture at Wikimedia Comons. Or - if you have own pictures you can upload them. --Ixkeys (talk) 17:12, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned
editThis page is no longer orphaned. There are three links to it from other articles.CharlesJustice (talk) 23:20, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Stub Category
editThe Hank drum is a challenging topic because the instrument is quite new. Therefor appreciation to you, Charlesjustice, that you start to undertake this challenge. In the current version the article in my opinion remains in the stub category. Therefor I undelete the stub category. That doesn't mean that it is bad. It means, that there is some work to do until it meats the wikipedia standards. It's a good beginning. --Ixkeys (talk) 14:06, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
References?
editWhat does reference #4 ("Hank at his finest" video) have to do with substantiating the claim that the term is an intentional reference to the character? GranoblasticMan (talk) 07:35, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
Number of entries
editIn google:
- tank drum: 117,000 results
- hank drum: 70,700 results
A redirection would be optimal. --Opus88888 (talk) 17:34, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
Moved article to Steel tongue drum
editAfter the article was moved back to hank drum without substantiation I made a new google check and found the following numbers of entries:
- steel tongue drum: 113,000 results
- tank drum: 84,400 results
- hank drum: 36,600 results
Therefor I moved the article to "Steel tongue drum" because this is the most used term. It also is the most descriptive term for these instruments. The term "hank drum" was originally invented as a joke in an internet forum related to Dennis Havlena's do it yourself instrument and he adopted that term. Today there are many manufacturers of steel tongue drums that differ from Havlena's original do it yourself instrument. These vendors usually call it steel tongue drum or tank drum and "hank drum" is mostly used only as an additional term to refer to and credit Dennis Havlena's invention. --Ixkeys (talk) 13:42, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
Older history
editThis article was moved inadequately in the past and therefor lost its older history. You can find the older history in the history page of Tank drum. --Ixkeys (talk) 14:57, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
Added some manufacturers to this article
editI added a list for some manufactures of this musical instruments. Please add some manufacturers here, if You know some of It. I don't thing also to commercional Tank drums, but also an individuals, because this instrument has a manual, how to create It by creator Dennis Havlena. Thank You very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cassa342 (talk • contribs) 19:44, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia. It doesn't make sense to incorporate a list of all manufactures of a musical instrument in an encyclopaedia article. There also is a problem of neutral point of view and original research because there are many dozens of manufacturers. Who should decide which of them should be in the list? Therefore I have removed this section from the article. --Ixkeys (talk) 20:00, 3 March 2016 (UTC)
