Nash named Canada's athlete of year
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/basketball/nba/12/26/nash.canada.award.ap/index.html can someone spend a bit time putting this info in? There's no "awards" section he's won this in 2002, 2005 and 2006 Z3u2 06:46, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
MVP Section
At the very least a serious section be devoted to the 2005 MVP voting aftermath, ie. the race was a factor argument. This was a contentious issue that saw many exchanges and analysis by writers that can all be sourced - Le Batard, Vecsey, Wilbon, Zirin, Simmons, etc. And this is important because the two MVP's Nash has won have been the most controversial in NBA history. Whether that controversy is justified is irrelevant. The fact remains, 2005 and 2006 saw more debate over the MVP award than any other years. Kjawiki 10:43, 3 January 2007 (UTC)kjawiki
- Most controversial in NBA's 60 year history? How did u conclude that? Which year's MVP race didn't cause a debate in media? There's always going to have people talking, especially for those who voted for other players, you can't cite everyone.
- The 2005 MVP result, the points received between shaq-nash were close, but only the fourth cloesest in the last 25 years. The 2006 ballot result didn't even come close; Nash was far ahead in first place vote and lead by a wide margin. How much more "serious" do u want this to be?

Doland Shvinkestemberton???????????????
Who is Doland Shvinkestemberton????? This name is mentioned in the "Early Years" section. Was this vandalism by some jerk? Does anyone have an explanation for this? Slater79 04:55, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Never mind!!!!
I went back to that section just now, and it was corrected already to read Steve Nash. Probably some brainless moron had put "Doland Shvinkestemberton" where Steve Nash's name should be. But it's all academic, now. Slater79 05:03, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Tottenham Hotspur
Today (February 21 2007) The Sun newspaper in the UK rumoured that Nash is interested in becoming a major investor at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club in London. I work at a UK newspaper and such speculation has been rife for a number of weeks. I argue it is relevant to his biography.
- i think it's only relevnt "when" he becomes a major investor, instead of only stating his interest. Z3u2 19:28, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
- now it's in the article but if the sun is the only source i doubt it is worth mentioning
- or is there any other evidence?
Nice to away fans
My 11 year old son is a Huge Nash fan and got his AAll Star Jersey with his Christmas money early this week. We were able to get tickets last night to see the Sixers/Suns in Philadelphia. My son waited at the tunnell and Steve Nash came out (alone) and let the fans take his picture and took my sons jersey and signed it for him. What a thrill for him!
Way to go Nash, a great player and give a little kid a lifetime memory! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by DEBarbie (talk • contribs) 17:18, 1 March 2007 (UTC).
Why?
Why isn't his awful and atrocious defense mentioned anywhere in this article? Manic Hispanic 05:37, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
British nationality
I looked up the article mentioned in an unsigned comment above which says that Nash has both British and Canadian nationality. [1] Nash was a British citizen by descent at birth as he was born overseas of the United Kingdom to British parents, but not South African as South Africa does not provide citizenship to children born of foreign parents.
I do not suggest for one moment describing Nash as British (as opposed to my argument for Wayne Gretzky) for Nash never resided permanently in the UK, moved to Canada at a very young age and continues to identify himself as Canadian. However, it might be useful to include British under nationality in the infobox, as it is a known fact that he holds British nationality. It is also not mentioned in the article that he is British. Kraikk 07:34, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
With no reply, I have gone ahead to add UK to his nationality. Please discuss here if you disagree. Kraikk 12:42, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
If nationality means "the country of which the person is a citizen or national, or was a citizen when the person became notable," then it seems it ought to only be Canadian. Certainly he was born to British parents, but that doesn't make him British, for the purposes of this article. Furthermore, Nash did not become notable until much later in life, when he was clearly Canadian. I would suggest that any reference to British nationality should be in reference to his parents, not himself. Nash declined to play for the British team, but did play for Canada. One might thus infer that Nash considers himself to be Canadian. Unless there is some current or recent example of his ties to Britain (ie. a British passport), I would suggest references to British nationality be relegated to his parents, not him. -Joel 70.53.120.224 10:31, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
He has a British passport, as shown in the link above. I agree with the points on notability, which is why his British nationality is not mentioned in the core article, only in the infobox, which is meant to provide the bare facts. Kraikk 11:39, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
Lead
the lead section is too long and contains lengthy information which better belong to a separate section in the article. Chensiyuan 05:17, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
- now the lead needs to be expanded. somebody moved the early life section into the lead which was a bad move. Chensiyuan 08:26, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
- the MVP section hardly warrants an independent section but would be better incorporated into the 2005-06 prose. Chensiyuan 08:27, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Debate Over MVP Awards
Camino1 had added the following, but I removed it when doing a restore (to undo multiple edits by another user).
There is a shadow over his MVP awards since Nash has never led a team to the NBA Finals, and there is a point guard in the league who has done it twice, former Rookie of the Year Jason Kidd. This may be accountable to Kidd having been arrested and charged in January 2001 with domestic abuse to which he pled guilty, and the NBA's effort to improve its image. Past great point guards, like Utah's John Stockton, have also taken their teams to the Finals without winning the MVP Award.
While I believe that parts of this somewhat true, it is unsourced, and the wording and formatting is strange. Also, the submitter had been previously warned for adding a similar statement. --Kshieh 22:01, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yes without mentioning how Camino constantly insists on having this text inserted in bold, the statement is both POV and OR. Chensiyuan 00:39, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
I am Camino1 and my contributons are nothing like the other person's, who is a true vandal. I agree it is POV but I have never seen an editor in any forum that did not have one. I have not received any explanation after twice requesting, so I am sure it's understandable if my perspective is that someone is either hyperdefensive or on a power trip.
- Your edits have been reverted by almost a dozen different people for countless times. You said you receive no explanation. From the article history that is clearly a lie. You have received at least four different explanations. You are a very belligerent editor. Manderiko 04:51, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
No wiki is an encyclopedia not your personal soapbox for your to express your OPINION in the article. You admit its pov. Plain & simple. You want to discuss the article do like you apparently have it now here on that talk page. There's no 'power' involved. Unless an admin we all got the same 'power' its just how you use it. --Xiahou 00:03, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Vandalism
I dont know what to do but the user named Erikstans07 is repetiatly vandalising this article. Warrush 15:53, 3 May 2007 (UTC)warrush
Someone needs to fix the vandalism in his stats section. It looks likea homophobic Lakers fan was a little upset after last nights game.
Not a candadian player
He lived in canada but i dont see how that makes him a canadian player when he plays for phoenix
- Because he's from Canada. Trevor GH5 16:17, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Is a canadian player
Ok, steve nash is obviously a canadian player, but where is the evidence that steve nash is from the uk too. Post a reference before changing is nationality, if there is no reference, leave it. Also, the reference above isn't a good reference, as it doesn't actually quote nash as saying he has a british passport, and no other popular reference, such as nba.com and espn.com, has him as british.Warrush 01:28, 9 May 2007 (UTC) edit-the reference above isn't a good reference, since it isn't a sports site. While all the popular sports sites, such as nba, espn, yahoo, and msn has him as canadian, and not british Warrush 13:48, 9 May 2007 (UTC)
Man this guys is full of shit! Steve Nash won because of a popularity contest? Steve Nashs jersey isn't even in the top 10, how the hell is he the most popular. If it was a popularity contest, Kobe Bryant would win every year. Warrush 21:54, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
Second or third guard to win back to back MVPs?
Right now, it says Nash is the second guard to do this, then names two people who did so before him. Can someone fix this, since the page is semi-protected?
No, it says he's the second point guard to do this, and then states Magic Johnson is the first guard, and then goes on and states only three guards have done this, which included Michael Jordan. So the information is correct. Warrush 01:29, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Nashty
Here's a list of several pages in which Steve Nash is referred to as NASHTY or derivative thereof, the one nickname he had in Dallas. This is no patently false claim, there are plenty of references to Nash as Nashty.
- about.com. are you kidding me?
- this one reads "nasty" not "nashty".
- thanks for another even more dubious website.
- why do you provide a link which has 3 fans - and not the article's author - by way of comment, calling him nashty?
and is there an explanation as to why these shirts would be created and sold if he's never been called this?
- i'm not even going to comment on this. Chensiyuan 21:00, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- Honestly, spare us the mockery. Manderiko 21:02, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Best achievement?
The end of the following sentence needs to be deleted. "Together with Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Finley, Nash took the Mavericks to the Western Conference Finals the following season, which was the best achievement in the Mavericks' franchise history."
This is a matter of opinion and I would think that most Mavericks would consider making it to the NBA finals in 2006 the "best achievement in Mavericks' franchise history"
Nor do I think it is the best achievement up to that point in franchise history. I would think that the 1987-1988 season team that lost in the Western Conference Finals 4 games to 3 games against the LA Lakers would be a more significant achievement. As opposed to the referred to team that lost 4 games to 1 to Sacramento. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.253.4.21 (talk • contribs) 20:02, 6 June 2007
I don't doubt it was the Mavericks' best achievement at the time, which could easily be when that part was written. — CharlotteWebb 20:18, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Not the best achievement in Mav's history up to that point, as he said the 1987-1988 season team that lost in the Western Conference Finals 4 games to 3 games against the LA Lakers, would be a better achievement.MDD5 20:52, 6 June 2007 (UTC) MDD5
- Then take out the best achievement. Chensiyuan 21:07, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
- I would but I don't see an "edit this page" tab at the top. How do I make the change then?MDD5 22:58, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
I added bills quote to nashs Most Valuable Player 2006: Nash wins again to make it more NPOV.Warrush 17:02, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

How to cite sources
Please follow this format when citing sources:
News articles: <ref>Author's last name, author's first name. [Link "Title goes here"], Publisher, date of article. Retrieved on access date.</ref>
Websites: <ref>Author's last name, author's first name (if available). [Link Title goes here], Publisher. Retrieved on access date.</ref>
Make sure dates are formatted in year month day format and are wikilinked (ex. Retrieved on 2007 July 24). The first few references have the proper format, so follow those for additional guidance. BlueAg09 (Talk) 11:05, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- There is more than one acceptable format for citing sources though, the key is to be consistent within the article. Personally I prefer the author, url/title of article, date of article, access date format. This format has been approved in various NBA FAs, such as Michael Jordan and Toronto Raptors. Hair?
I know it's a bit inconsequential, but how long did he wear his hair long and when did he cut it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.245.252.145 (talk) 18:09, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Percents in Statistics in bad format
If you say that the stats are in percents, you don't move the decimal place over 2 places. if Nash shot 41.0% in 3-pters under the 3pt% it should say 41.0, not 0.410, which would mean that 0.410 is in percents, or really 0.00410. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.3.78.56 (talk) 01:20, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
