Quality
editWhat's the "quality" problem with this page?
- The quality problem, as I see it, is in the tone. using words like "nabbed" and "spacious halls" is not appropriate to an encyclopedia.--Kalossoter 21:04, 18 July 2006 (UTC)
- Alright well do what you see fit to improve it. I'll keep an eye on it make sure it isn't too drastic. Mientkiewicz5508 04:01, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
Cleanup Done?
editWell I just spent the last few hours cleaning this up and making it as unbias and encyclopedia-like as possible. I added a massive, but complete athletics table, as well as the fight song. Until someone says otherwise, I'm removing both the tone and wikify things. Mientkiewicz5508 06:16, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Eric Knoff
editA few days ago I added Eric Knoff to the "famous" alumni. I'm wondering why he was removed?
- I removed it a few days ago, and if you look on the History page, you'll notice why. Mostly because I've never heard of Eric Knoff, and you didn't cite a reason why he was a famous alumni. You posted something about an article he'd written (or something like that). Also, the link you provided did not show that he was from Stillwater, or even provide a reason why he's notable at all. Mientkiewicz5508 23:19, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
Chelsey Jones
editHow is Chelsey Jones a notable alumni? Might as well list every alumni that has been employee of the month somewhere if she is. Bgold4 15:51, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- She's attending one of the best women's hockey programs in the Nation, and is an impact player, in the starting lineup as a freshman, and the player of the week in just her first year. She's now a local celebrity of sorts. If Gullikson is a notable alumni, then she certainly is too. Just because she plays a less popular sport doesn't make her any less notable.Mientkiewicz5508 21:37, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
Notability
editI've removed most of the article - the sports stuff, the music stuff, the fact that there are lockers in the halls, it's not notable, it's not that different from every other high school ever. Even making the nationals occasionally isn't notable, unless it happens much more often than for other schools. The only reasons I haven't proposed the page for AFD is that the bit about racial conflict sounds potentially notable. However, it isn't really discussed. If that can be expanded, then maybe the article is worth keeping. If not, probably the whole article should be deleted as no more notable than the average school. And remember that newsworth is not necessarily the same as notable. Regards, Ben Aveling 06:38, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- Alright, fine. I'll concede the the season by season reviews of notable teams can go. However, the removal of the Music Programs and the State Championship Grid is something I'm not going to budge on. The music program is without a doubt the best in the state, with a record of (something like) 50 straight years of Superior ratings in Orchestra, Band, and Choir. The championship grid is something that is fairly common with other schools (reference Cretin-Derham Hall, and I believe is something that adds to the article without being too wordy. I highly encourage you to keep this grid, as it doesn't misrepresent the school, nor does it have a biased POV. I will make an effort to rewrite the music program section to reflect what I stated above. I will be adding it, and as you were saying in regards to most of it being "not any different than any other high school", this music program certainly is, and thus I will include it.
- Mientkiewicz5508 13:05, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
- If they are the best in the state, whatever, that's probably worth mentioning, even though it would not be sufficient to establish notability on it's own. But you need to find a cite where someone reputable says that they're the best in the state, etc. And the table, what year is that for? It's meaningless without a period on it. Regards, Ben Aveling 12:35, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Championships
editI'm not sure how to cite this, but the Championship Grid I made from a similar grid that was listed in a pamphlet the school put out to all its students last year, and I've updated it as the teams have won additional championships. Can you suggest a way to cite this? I don't know of anywhere online that I could find all these listed. Mientkiewicz5508 13:40, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
- This isn't an adequate citation, as it refers to a mirror of Wikipedia. --Mel Etitis (Talk) 14:26, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:GoPonies.gif
editImage:GoPonies.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:19, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Jeff Schaubschlager?
editWho is Jeff Schaubschlager? I've been a hardcore WWE & pro wrestling fan for 12 years and I've never heard of him, and a google search reveals nothing. Being a very dedicated fan as long as I have surely I would have heard of a WWE wrestler from my hometown. --71.37.227.177 (talk) 21:13, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
Music section
editThe music section was wrongfully removed a long time ago. The school is known equally for it's music program quality as its athletics, if not more so. If athletics deserve a place, music easily does. In music circles, Stillwater has been known for it's education excellence and that includes the music program, as it is held in very high regard.
- If you can find a reliable independent source that confirms this, then it could be mentioned, in encyclopedic language. —SMALLJIM 23:34, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
- I agree with Smalljim's assessment in full. Unreferenced claims to achievement, boastful language that cannot possibly be referenced and use of faculty names are all out of policy and/or guidelines. See WP:V, WP:SCH/AG, and WP:PUFFERY. Also in agreement on the following section. John from Idegon (talk) 00:25, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
notability
editThis is very subjective, obviously. B/C-list actors are hardly notable. I would also argue that nigh-unknown writers do not qualify as 'notable'
- Notability is presumed by the existence of an article. If you think someone is not notable enough for an article here, then consider the Articles for deletion process. —SMALLJIM 23:34, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
- The new editor is apparently unaware that notability has a somewhat different meaning on Wikipedia than in real life. Notability in the Wikipedia sense of the word simply means "Qualifying for an article". John from Idegon (talk) 00:28, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
Alyssa Funke controversy
editI have removed the reference to this, not because I disagree with the sentiments expressed, but because the language needs to be toned down. This is an encyclopedia, not a Soapbox. Try again, please: the paragraph immediately above the one I removed provides an example of how to go about it. —Phil | Talk 15:09, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
Controversies section again.
editThe copy about Ms. Funke needs to be removed or the references improved immediately. As it sits, referenced only to blogs, it is a gross BLP violation. BLP applies to recently deceased ppl too. I am editing from my phone, which really does not allow much of anything other than starting new sections on talk pages and reverting vandal edits. Otherwise I would have removed it myself. If there is no improvement, that will happen Sunday morning latest. John from Idegon (talk) 04:02, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
- One little problem Alyssa Funke redirects her and now this article does not mention anything about her. Her suicide is clearly not notable enough to have her own article, so what are we going to do with that? 173.2.255.244 (talk) 23:50, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
- I will nominate the redirect article for deletion at WP:RFD. Sorry to those involved but I view the close of the AfD on her article as a very poor decision. This just screams WP:BLP1E. John from Idegon (talk) 19:43, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
- Well, the redirect is protected, so I cannot list it at RFD. So lemme find an admin and get them involved. John from Idegon (talk) 19:43, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
