Stock name origin

What is the origin of word Stock in this case? I heard theories that it come from Netherlands, just a bit before Dutch East Company (VOC) was incorporated, where literally stock meant a framework in which boat was constructed. Because building ships and sending them on trade routes was expensive and risky, it couldn't be done by individual, so they done investments with shares instead, to build this ships and divide profits, and make tradeable shares. No idea if this is true. 2A02:168:F609:0:6706:8E0A:9D0B:8DF6 (talk) 23:11, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
