Possible Disambiguation
editChristian Artist Matthew West has an album called "The Story of your Life". Even though the only thing on Wikipedia is on his page under the section "Story Of Your Life (2010-present)", I think that it is necessary disambiguate it from this Novel. Wizoomer95 (talk) 00:21, 24 March 2011 (UTC)
Sapir-Whorf hypothesis
editSince the introductory paragraph specifically mentions that the story has an interesting take on the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, there should be an explanation of this take, somewhere in the article. As the article currently stands, it's left to the reader to infer what that take might be.

- I removed reference to the Sapir–Whorf hypothesis here as it's not mentioned in the story, only the film, which suggests original research. —Bruce1eetalk 09:43, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
Plot Summary needs copyediting
editWe can have a short summary of a plot. We can have a complete plot synopsis. We can explain a plot. This plot summary reads as if it attempts to do all three, making it fairly difficult to understand. CapnZapp (talk) 13:23, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
- I agree with you, it does need reworking; also there are elements of analysis in it which don't belong there, not to mention that that is original research. I've taken the bold step of rewriting the plot summary. Any thoughts or comments? Feel free to jump in and amend as you see fit. —Bruce1eetalk 14:30, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
"Plot"
edit"It is never established why they leave, or why they had come in the first place."
The heptapods say short before they disappear that they are teaching the humans so we will help them 3.000 later. Îagûara (talk) 00:31, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
- Remember, this article is about the novella, not the film adaptation. Near the end of the novella, the narrator says, "We never did learn why the heptapods left, any more than we learned what brought them here, or why they acted the way they did." —Bruce1eetalk 08:59, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
