This reads like nothing more than a press release. Andjam 01:34, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks to those who cleaned it up. A school that teaches almost entirely in Arabic is almost certainly noteworthy. Incidentally, is there anything in wikipedia about Islamic schools in America (or other western countries)? Andjam 13:30, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
Non-Muslim children
edit- The website says "Children... are eligible for enrollment in The Straight Way School regardless of race, color, creed, or gender". http://www.straightwayschool.com/admission.html Kappa 23:00, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
Their mission says "Provide an educational opportunity to the Muslim children and their families." Allowing a non-believer to attend on condition they convert doesn't count. You can only claim to be open to all faiths, if you allow non-believers to remain non-believers (though you may try to persuade them). There is no exception to religious instruction permitted. We, shouldn't just repeat promotional messages here. --rob 23:03, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- How about this:
- "Although children are eligible to enroll regardless of faith, the school's mission includes "[to] introduce basic Islamic principles to the children as early educational foundation". Kappa
- For now, without knowing better wording, I'll accept that. Frankly, I can't verify any information in this article, so there's no reason to pick this single point. All real licensed schools have official rules that dictate admission. Some are free to pick and choose, while others have a charter that forces them to accept anybody who meets certaind defined criteria. One can normally check with an official source, and determine who a school may or may not accept. With this school, we can't yet do that. Hence, the school can claim anything they wish, and we can't challenge it. That's the real problem, and this admission issue is a minor symptom, I won't worry about. --rob 23:33, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- It googles better as "Straight Way school". Here's a .gov website that mentions it as a real school (with busses) http://www.aqmd.gov/tao/FleetRules/1195SchoolBus/R1195%20ImplementationGuidancev1-1.doc. (recommned the google cache. Incidentally there's another website here: http://geocities.com/straight_way_school/ Kappa 23:50, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- I almost renamed the article, but then on the official site I realized it had "Straight Way", "Straightway", "STRAIGHTWAY", and "StraightWay". So, changing the bolded school name back would be fine with me. --rob 01:35, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
