While this article is up to date regarding one of Dennis Washingtons resorts…AARON POINT LODGE…which is located on opposite end of island from the resort formerly known as Stuart Island Resort, you have not mentioned anything about it’s incredible history. My ex Jamie Yavis owned Stuart I stand Resort after taking it over from his father in early 80’s…his father operated it for a 30 yrs prior, when Stuart Island was a thriving community…these were pioneers in the resort sports fishing industry…Brimicome lodge was the first…run by the Brimicome family. SIR had govt dock, gulf gas dock, general store, post office, restaurant, bar 16 cabins…it was called “The Landing” and supplied everything for the community as well as the Churchhouse Indian band (Hamalco FN) who were eventually moved to Campbell River because of the challenges of living so remote and treated horribly for so many years (that’s a whole other story) I

John Wayne was a regular at SIR in the 70’s, so was Julie Andrews and Blake Edwards…whom I was lucky enough to meet. Wayyyy back, old steam ships use to dock there!! The history goes on and is so much more important than Dennys Washington buying up everything he can for his rich friends.I was operations manager from 92-97…Jamie and his partner sold it to Dennis in 97 and unfortunately he made it exclusively private. The 90’s proved it very difficult for the pioneers to survive in the industry anymore…we built a new lodge, updated the experience but ridiculous tax laws and the fisheries itself forced many to sell to big corporations.
