Stung Treng Dam - proposed location
editThe location of the proposed dam is incorrectly placed on the map, an error I do not know how to correct. The dam's proposed location is just upstream from where the Sesan/Sre Pok/Se Kong tributaries converge with the Mekong mainstream at 22°39′22″N 100°25′06″E — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rechmaduong (talk • contribs) 01:32, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
- You can see I changed it here within the infobox but that coordinate you gave lands in China.--NortyNort (Holla) 03:47, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
Mekong floodings and the current climate change
editHi.
There are now several wiki-pages on Mekong damming projects, which is fine imo. But I don't see any mention or discussion of these projects in relation to the devastating floodings that occurs every year all over the Mekong region. They are already severe and kills people each year and with the current climate change floodings will only increase in the near future. It is important to discuss and mention this in relation to all the damming projects for several reasons. Here are two important ones:
- The damming project is also an effort to curb the floodings and prepare for the bleak future in and around the Mekong. They are not only meant for producing electricity, but also to safeguard the population and surrounding countryside, which includes a lot of farmland and villages.
- The current climate change already have, and will increasingly have, a major impact on the Mekong region. Both the infrastructure, the towns, the villages, the agricultural sector, the fishing industry and the dam reservoirs as well. Even without describing how the dam projects tries to tackle the flooding problem, these effects needs to be included, for they will affect the dam projects no matter what.
