Confusing / Unclear flag - Signs & Symptoms

edit

The "Signs and symptons" section needs to better differentiate between the onset of symptoms for acute, subacute, and chronic. The line Thus, signs and symptoms may show up within 24 hours but can be delayed as much as 2 weeks.[5] is misleading because acute subdural hematoma can produce symptoms in minutes, if not immediately. To say "within 24 hours" could cause someone to wait and not seek proper medical treatment. See http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000713.htm. When the section gets fixed, please go ahead and remove my flag. Thanks. 5Q5 (talk) 16:01, 19 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Reference to subdural space

edit

The term 'subdural space' is no longer used and is an inaccurate term. The arachnoid and dura are continuous. Subdural hematomas occur between the arachnoid and dura because the intercellular connections between the two layers are weak and the path of least resistance. I suggest changing the wording in the first paragraph to avoid refering to a subdural space as though it actually exists. Pwawryko (talk) 17:19, 4 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

While I appreciate that the subdural space is a "potential space"--because the two layers are so tightly apposed that under physiological conditions no space exists--I don't agree that referring to the area between the arachnoid and the dura as a "space" is improper usage in this specific case which is pathophysiological, and not physiological. This article is referring to the pathological situation where blood has created a space between the arachnoid and the dura. Therefore I think it is appropriate in this instance to refer to the "subdural space". It has, in fact, become a space. Vihsadas (talk) 05:42, 19 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Although in the third sentence the use of the word subdural space seems confusing to me, because it's talking about a tear in the bridging veins that cross the 'subdural space' - perhaps instead it should read "Usually resulting from tears in bridging veins which cross from the dura mater to the arachnoid membrane, ..."?165.86.81.20 (talk) 23:33, 3 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
