Organization

edit

I have started a subpage for helping to organize Branches, subfields, topics, etc. • CQ 04:09, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

List of...

edit

Shouldn't this page be called "List of subfields of sociology" or "List of branches of sociology" seeings as it was decided that that was the best name for the category when we oeganised it in Category:Sociology. JenLouise 03:32, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I don't see why not.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 14:13, 18 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

National sociologies

edit

Should we create a Category:Sociology by region, akin to Category:Philosophy by region? I've just created Sociology in Poland, and I wager many similar articles should be written, discussing sociology in various countries (and regions).--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 14:15, 18 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sections of ASA

edit

We should incorporate fields as listed at ASA. See sections, but also the fields as listed in the job bank. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 21:04, 2 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

To do

edit
  1. Make sure that all items from Category:Branches of sociology are here
  2. Reference!
  3. How to make the article comprehensive? Are there some canon lists of branches of sociology? (see my thoughts above)
  4. Formating of the list (how to indicate alternative names, see also and redirects)
  5. When are some things simply alternative names of some subfields? Aaargh. Should some things be redirects? Should sociology of conflict just be a redirect to conflict theory, and sociology of globalization to world system approach? Is there a difference between sociology of labor and sociology of work? Etc.

Indeed. But it must also be noted that many of these supposed subfields are a little dubious. Many are topics more than subdisciplines, per se. In the case of having both "sociology of military" and "sociology of war", or "sociology of work" and "sociology of business", it'd often be best to have just one article. Often a sociologist will cover any of these topics without self-consciously demanding "I am a sociologist of work" or such and such. --Tomsega (talk) 17:23, 3 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Good point, but how to distinguish a topic from a subdiscipline (with reliable sources...)? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 19:15, 3 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
